00:00 So I've always been on and off running for years. My mom's a really good runner
00:04 and we used to go on loads of runs together and then the last probably last
00:10 year I signed up to do the Great North Run thinking I'm gonna get in really
00:13 good shape and train and absolutely smash it and didn't do any of that.
00:18 So I did it last year with I just completely walked it and still completed it and I
00:22 felt somewhat of achievement but overall just really disappointed with how it
00:29 went because I had this idea in my head that I was gonna like do really well in it.
00:32 So I think from this year, the start of the year, I set out to try and lose a lot of weight
00:36 and I had quite a lot of weight to lose and running was just the best way for it.
00:41 I've really really enjoyed getting back into it but the main motivation was to
00:46 do it again this year and then hopefully do a lot a lot better than last year.
00:49 Yeah really good so far. I've done quite a few races this year. I've done the
00:53 Sunderland Half Marathon in May and then most recently I've done the Durham 10k
00:58 and the Gateshead Trail Run and I've not just done like my local runnings
01:01 round Hebburn and my sprints and things like that so it's going really well so
01:04 far. Like I say my mom doesn't really do much running now but she used to be
01:07 really good so she's kind of my somewhat coach if you had to say something. She's
01:11 always giving us a constructive criticism and advice of how to do things
01:15 that's really helpful. But yeah overall it's going really well I feel so far.
01:18 I got in the ballot this year. Last year I did it for Get Kids Going
01:23 which is a local charity and then I did the Sunderland Half Marathon for a
01:27 charity called Sparks in Whitley Bay which is very very close to a good
01:32 friend of mine and we raised quite a lot of money for that but this year not for the
01:35 Great North Run just got through the ballot this year. I think the best
01:38 advice would just be just do anything you can. I mean at the start of the year
01:42 when I first started running again I couldn't do, I don't think I could even manage half a
01:45 mile to be honest with you. I would go out, I would jog what I could, walk what
01:50 I could and it just gradually builds up over time. It's easy to get
01:55 disheartened at first especially with running I think because it is so tiring
01:58 basically and it really does take it out of you but I think just start slow and
02:03 just do what you can and don't go out there expecting to just fly and do these
02:07 amazing times and do these amazing distances and just be consistent with it.
02:11 It's probably the best advice I would give and just be easy on yourself.
02:15 There's some days you'll go out and you'll do amazing and you'll say 'oh it was
02:18 fantastic' and the day after that you'll do the same distance and you'll feel
02:21 absolutely dying and just be easy on yourself and accept that some days are
02:25 gonna be better than others I would say.
02:27 How are you feeling getting that close?
02:31 I feel alright I think so far. I've really, the next three, from last week so that's four
02:38 weeks really, I'm really trying to go for it and really up the training.
02:44 Overall I feel alright and I'd love to get under two hours that would be my ideal
02:49 situation. I did the Sunderland half marathon in two hours 13 so I'm not too far off
02:55 but overall I feel alright. Ask us again on the day and I might feel
02:59 completely different but for now I feel okay about it.
