Will Rooney reports from Villa Park
Transcript
00:00 Well, new season, same old away problem forever.
00:03 And,
00:04 thrash 4-0 here at Villa Park against Aston Villa.
00:07 They were second best in all departments.
00:09 Even Sean Dicey's missed a dad after the game.
00:11 A really, really poor performance to a man,
00:13 to be honest with you, from the Toffees.
00:16 And they still go without a win this season,
00:18 obviously beating home at Fulham on the opening day.
00:21 But there were encouraging signs in that game,
00:23 and you thought maybe coming to Villa Park,
00:24 maybe they might turn their away form around this season.
00:27 No, definitely not.
00:28 Comprehensively thrash 4-0 against a Villa side
00:31 who themselves suffered a real sobering loss
00:33 on their opening day of the campaign.
00:37 Aston Villa took the lead in the first half
00:41 through John McGinn.
00:42 Poor goal for Evans.
00:43 You can see Villa worked it down
00:45 through Leon Bailey on the right,
00:47 cut it back, and there was John McGinn inside the box.
00:49 Unmarked completely and strokes it home.
00:52 And then Villa, four minutes later,
00:54 have a golden chance to make it 2-0.
00:56 Jordan Pickford's the judge to have filed Olly Watkins
00:59 on rushing inside the box.
01:01 I mean, there wasn't a lot of contact,
01:03 but Jordan Pickford, he didn't exactly do himself any favors
01:06 the way he came out and really charted Olly Watkins,
01:09 a referee, Anthony Taylor, points to the spot for the AR,
01:12 didn't overturn it.
01:13 And Douglas Suiz steps up for Aston Villa and fires home.
01:17 And then Evans' misery's compounded
01:19 because in the 10th minute, Dominic Albert-Lewin,
01:21 who was sat out against Fulham on the grounds of fitness,
01:25 he didn't want to take any chances with him.
01:27 He wanted him to be fully up to speed.
01:29 Well, in the 10th minute of this game,
01:31 and the game was goalless,
01:32 he collides with Villa keeper, Demi Martinez,
01:34 tries to carry on.
01:35 And in the 37th minute, he decides he no longer can.
01:40 His cheekbone was quite swollen
01:43 and he had swelling around that.
01:47 Luckily, Sean Dicey has said that he had blurred vision,
01:51 but it wasn't concussion.
01:52 So hopefully, Dominic Albert-Lewin,
01:54 he's not set for another long-term issue
01:57 or another issue on the sidelines
01:59 because we know he's had his problems.
02:01 But one player who is going to be sidelines,
02:03 it looks like, for a period, is Altawobi.
02:05 After the break, he went down clutching his hamstring,
02:10 went off and usually hamstring injuries,
02:12 they take a couple of weeks, to be honest with you.
02:15 And Altawobi's not someone who generally picks up
02:18 a lot of injuries.
02:18 And after that, Villa go and get the third
02:22 and put the game to bed.
02:24 Poor clearance from Michael Keane, just...
02:26 It wasn't, he didn't swipe a thin air,
02:31 but he got absolutely nothing on it.
02:33 Ball falls kindly to Bailey
02:35 and he put it through the legs.
02:37 Jordan Pickford, I think, might be a little bit disappointed
02:39 to be honest with you,
02:40 because it wasn't like it was close range.
02:41 It was probably from 15 yards, something like that.
02:44 And Pickford just can't adjust correctly.
02:46 And then it's 4-0 and with around 15 minutes left,
02:50 Asli Young, the most experienced player,
02:53 in the Everton team,
02:56 on his back on his old stomping ground,
02:57 just plays almost a blind throw
03:01 back towards the Everton defence.
03:02 Michael Keane's ponderous and John Duran nips in
03:06 and fires past Pickford.
03:08 I mean, Sean Dyche made no excuses for his side
03:11 in his post-match press conference,
03:13 said to a manly report, to be honest.
03:15 He said, "It's just one of those days
03:16 where Everton often went right for them."
03:19 And he's disappointed because he's seen a lot of good signs
03:21 in that full defeat.
03:23 - Yeah, Everton, we know how bad they have been
03:26 on the roads in the past two years.
03:28 And if they are going to want to be
03:30 at least on the relegation path this season,
03:33 they need to start picking points up on the road.
03:34 They can't be going to games and writing them off.
03:36 But it looks like for the away fans
03:41 who were sat opposite me,
03:43 a lot of them left after the fourth went in.
03:44 And it looks like those staunch applauses are in
03:47 for 18 more long trips, to be honest with you,
03:50 because there were no signs today
03:53 that Everton are going to be any better on the road.
03:55 Just on Sean Dyche's press conference,
03:58 he was asked about Che Adams' fresh bid made
04:01 for the Southampton striker.
04:02 Sean Dyche didn't deny it yet again,
04:04 that Everton have made a bid.
04:06 He said, "They're working hard
04:07 and he won't tell us about mythical things
04:09 until they're factual."
04:12 But yeah, he didn't deny, certainly, Che Adams.
04:16 Russell Martin said to the Southampton manager
04:18 that they rejected a bid yesterday
04:21 after their win against Plymouth.
04:22 And it almost sounds like once their desired price tag
04:27 is met, they might be willing to let Adams go.
04:29 But Everton certainly needs a bit of firepower
04:31 because now they're facing period box Alex O'Alby,
04:34 Dwight McNeil, or as you know,
04:35 Jack Harrison, the signing from Leeds.
04:37 It's also on the sidelines for hip injury.
04:39 Damari Gray continues to be absent.
04:41 Yeah, so wanted to write off it for Everton today,
04:45 definitely, and now they look towards Wolverhampton 1s.
04:48 There's a home next week, finished here.
04:50 Aston Villa 4, Everton 0.
