00:00 Had an injury we expect him to be.
00:02 I don't think we talked since then.
00:03 Is that correct or no?
00:04 That way.
00:06 Baki has a season injury in the
00:09 injury to his name.
00:11 If I'm right,
00:12 I think we got out of today's scrimmage.
00:16 I don't think we had any
00:17 significant injuries at all.
00:18 I don't remember anybody.
00:20 Going off their side or
00:21 anything like that,
00:22 so that was a good thing.
00:23 We we were live again on
00:25 current kickoff return opening
00:27 kickoff we gave my.
00:29 So taking it took it 100 yard took
00:32 it took it for touchdown on the
00:35 opening kickoff and it was a live rep.
00:37 So.
00:38 I was as happy as I am for the kickoff
00:42 return team kickoff team gave up 100
00:45 and something yard.
00:46 I returned that is a good way
00:48 to start start the scrimmage.
00:49 Thought it was a good physical battle.
00:52 We had a couple of big plays taken
00:55 back by holding penalties on offense.
00:59 And I think you have to understand
01:01 two guys the format of 'cause I
01:03 think I'm understanding you guys
01:04 want to play well and there's
01:06 a winner and a loser.
01:08 And if that was the case and we called it,
01:11 I'd say probably defense got the better
01:13 of the offense if you're looking at
01:15 ones, twos and threes, you know.
01:17 I mean, if you're doing that,
01:18 but the format is set up that the
01:21 offense gets ball 75 yards away
01:23 from scoring a touchdown and they've
01:25 got 10 maybe 11 plays possibility
01:28 to do it.
01:30 So really,
01:30 what we're looking for is making calls.
01:33 Who's physical?
01:34 Who's coming around?
01:34 Who can tackle?
01:36 Who can run the ball?
01:38 Who can catch things of that nature and?
01:42 About 140 plays,
01:44 I think maybe maybe more because we
01:45 did get the ball back in two minutes.
01:48 Cam another highlight.
01:50 Cam will kick a 59 yard field goal today.
01:53 And I believe he was 100% on his.
01:56 I think we might have missed one
01:57 or two with the twos one with the
01:59 twos and cameras.
02:00 100 boys kicking the ball really well.
02:02 Planted ball well and it's already
02:04 well both of them.
02:05 Now 37 and and my fledge so.
02:11 A lot of good things.
02:12 If I was disappointed in anything,
02:14 it would be the number of times that
02:17 we got called holding on the edge and.
02:21 On offense,
02:22 the player defense cleaned up their
02:24 penalties until the very end on on
02:26 the last two minute grill.
02:27 We got a couple of holdings on that,
02:28 but.
02:29 Other than that,
02:30 I thought the defense flew around,
02:32 played well.
02:33 We got some of the guys back.
02:34 Booker book was back this week
02:37 who was not in there yet and and.
02:42 51 came back on offense so.
02:46 Devon so.
02:48 I'll answer whatever question
02:49 goes I can.
02:50 You guys gotta know I just came off.
02:51 I probably told you everything I know
02:54 already, but I'll answer whatever gap.
02:56 We started out with change the format
03:00 trade today and start out good on good.
03:02 So we had to open and kicked off which
03:05 Isaiah put back the touchdown and then
03:07 we went out there good on good.
03:09 I believe the very first player
03:11 scrimmage with KJ who'd you
03:13 sell it to their own Jaden and
03:15 got a nice 1617 or gate on that
03:17 made the first down.
03:18 I think we might have got one more
03:21 and then we had to punt but.
03:23 And yeah, it was one on one,
03:25 two on two, three on three.
03:27 Then we went back to 122133
03:29 and then it was good on good for third,
03:32 second play, third, third, play,
03:34 fourth high low get the ball back in 2 minutes.
03:38 We're talking about the pass protection.
03:43 You know, having some problems
03:44 in the last scrimmage,
03:45 but he said, you know,
03:46 in scrimmages you tend to throw more
03:47 than you would get all the situations
03:49 that is that that makes the defense
03:51 kind of in their ears back a little bit
03:52 more and how was that?
03:53 How was that?
03:54 So I thought our past
03:55 protection was better today.
03:57 Now it's hard to, you know,
03:59 you got seven.
03:59 He just walked in.
04:00 You got him coming off the edge.
04:02 That's a that's a bad man
04:04 sitting back there and it's going to
04:05 take a really good offensive line,
04:07 you know, and here's the thing with him.
04:10 We're not going into the scrimmage saying,
04:11 OK, we're going to slide to him.
04:13 We're going to chip in.
04:14 We're going to do all those things.
04:15 We're trying to see if we got
04:16 somebody that can block him,
04:18 you know, and and so I did think
04:21 the protection, even though we've
04:23 got still a long way to go,
04:25 I thought it was better this
04:26 week than it was last week.
04:27 And I'll be honest with them.
04:29 I Andrew Chamblee,
04:30 Deb, Deb Manuel hadn't played a lot,
04:31 but I think and you guys
04:32 seven about that too,
04:33 but he don't go against him quite
04:35 as much as he does the other side.
04:37 But I ain't Chamblee had,
04:39 you know, don't you KJ?
04:41 I mean, I think he had a really good week
04:43 and I think he's solidified at worst
04:46 that second team left back the spot,
04:48 but I thought they did better this week
04:52 in the past protection,
04:53 but I think we got a pretty good front
04:55 and they're very difficult to play,
04:57 especially when they're they're loaded.
04:59 But scrimmages are always always.
05:03 You're trying to.
05:03 You're trying to get that quarterback
05:05 in that receiver game and you're hoping
05:08 in practice you see the run game
05:10 and you know you feel like
05:11 you got a good run game
05:12 or a good run stopping game.
05:14 But in scrimmages seem like
05:15 you always err on going
05:16 to football more.
05:17 OK, does that make him your
05:21 takeoff return guy or what?
05:23 How's that going?
05:25 No, it's still.
05:26 It's still a battle in there.
05:27 I think will.
05:29 Will decide sometime
05:30 middle middle next week.
05:32 I think we have to be honest with you,
05:33 'cause Wednesday we start
05:36 prep on Western Carolina,
05:38 so we'll review the tape and go there,
05:40 but I can promise you didn't hurt it.
05:43 OK, or who else is in that mess?
05:46 Snacks dancing is also in that mix.
05:50 And and Bryce Stevens is
05:52 is doing that a little bit too.
05:54 No, you practice for two weeks.
05:56 Get foods for the opener,
05:57 so you can I guess at a halfway point.
05:59 Just how do you feel about where you
06:01 what you got done with your team?
06:03 There was physical.
06:06 The hate was a little bit of a
06:08 problem with emotions today that
06:10 we've got to get under control.
06:12 We will and we got a good culture.
06:15 We would make our kids like each other.
06:17 I think they love each other
06:19 and they play hard and you don't
06:21 want a lot of games being able to do that.
06:22 We got tough football team.
06:24 Proud of him.
06:26 There is a stood out today.
06:27 Probably two, I'd say.
06:32 I don't know.
06:39 We didn't have a whole lot of
06:40 big plays out there today.
06:41 We have a lot of first downs,
06:43 but not a lot of big plays.
06:44 I think two.
06:46 KJ, who else did you throw the ball to a lot?
06:49 Tyrone, 17.
06:52 I don't know, guys.
06:53 Sometimes, you know, we got ones, twos, and threes,
06:56 and I can't - my mind not going to
06:58 work as good as it used to.
07:01 Coming up, how would you say that
07:03 basically the camp went that,
07:05 you know, what would have been the
07:06 old two-a-days type portion of it?
07:08 And then what are you focusing on for this week?
07:10 Love it. I think - I think in camp,
07:12 I think - I think you have to talk to your kids.
07:19 And to a man, they really like
07:22 the early morning practices.
07:24 And we're going to keep that.
07:27 And they liked it.
07:28 They practiced hard.
07:31 We're going to be ready for the heat on -
07:32 in two weeks, because we got two weeks
07:34 of afternoon practice.
07:36 Before you ask me about the air conditioning,
07:38 it's supposed to be ready to go on Monday.
07:41 [Laughs]
07:44 And, yeah.
07:46 But I thought camp went great.
07:48 I think we got a good culture.
07:50 We got hot today.
07:51 You know, there was a little bit of temper
07:53 playing out there back and forth.
07:54 And we got hot.
07:56 But when you're hot, you got to control those things.
07:58 It was great. It was a great learning experience
08:00 for us today.
08:02 We got a good tough football team,
08:03 and I like where we're at after two weeks.
08:05 I really do, a lot.
08:08 I believe you said that you guys had
08:09 a little bit of trouble on the edges.
08:11 Was that first-team offense or just, like, overall offense?
08:17 We've got good pass rushes on every level,
08:20 ones, twos, and threes.
08:22 And the best thing that's happening, really,
08:25 for, like, a Cooters is he's going against Drew.
08:27 And there might be a better D in out there,
08:34 but we ain't trading out much.
08:36 So I'd say there was a little bit of that problem
08:41 in all levels,
08:44 but it was much better than it was a week ago.
08:47 On a couple of the receivers who performed well today,
08:50 but I'm curious if maybe you're starting to see
08:52 maybe a starting rotation of receivers stand out to you.
08:58 Yeah, I think two of the three were pretty locked in on,
09:01 and we're close on the third.
09:04 But we're going to play about six of them.
09:07 So, you know, but I do think two of them,
09:11 two of the three probably had, you know,
09:12 a little bit ahead of the other guys.
09:14 And the three were pretty close on who we all really would be.
09:18 To start, but we're going to need six of them to play well.
09:24 Coach, last week you mentioned the penalties
09:27 for the secondary, and I think today
09:28 you might have said a couple of holding,
09:30 but did they take a step forward in your mind today?
09:33 Yeah, I thought they did.
09:34 I mean, you know, we're looking to take
09:36 and see if they all got called or not.
09:38 I think you have to ask KJ about that.
09:41 I think he saw a few more than what they called out there.
09:43 But, yeah, I think we made a conscious effort of it.
09:48 We did last week as well.
09:51 You know, here's the other thing, too, guys.
09:54 We're dealing with two separate different types
09:56 of officiating, too.
09:58 You know, I mean, last week it was SEC crew,
10:00 and this week it's more of MIAA, you know,
10:04 some other crew, you know, it was a different crew.
10:09 And so different people called, you know,
10:11 close plays differently.
10:14 We'll look at it all.
10:15 I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.
10:17 There was more flags out there than what we can win a game
10:20 with for the second week in a row.
10:24 Coach, how difficult is it to maintain
10:27 the players' concentration
10:29 this last upcoming preseason week without a game?
10:33 I don't think at all because the way we structure it,
10:36 you know, Friday night is, you know,
10:38 we're going to announce captains on Friday,
10:40 and we're going to go out there and do a mock game.
10:43 That's just a change-up for them.
10:45 But, you know, we're starting Monday, Tuesday,
10:47 and then it goes Monday, Tuesday,
10:49 Wednesday, Thursday, Thursday, and then the game.
10:51 So because knowing that,
10:54 we change up the format of practice to keep the kids,
10:57 you know, because when they come back on Saturday,
11:00 you know, they're going to be back on a Monday schedule again.
11:04 How do you feel about your group of receivers?
11:08 Very good.
11:09 You ask KJ about that. He's the ones that got to go, too.
11:12 But I feel really good about it.
11:13 Was back today just --
11:19 he immediately slapped back with the ones,
11:20 and then how did he perform his first day back?
11:25 I'm laughing because KJ said, Kyle, 10 minutes.
11:28 I'm not running it. He's the guy.
11:30 Now, you're looking at me.
11:32 He's the guy, and I keep doing --
11:33 KJ, I see you looking at him, and I'm doing it like this, too.
11:38 Devon -- Devon --
11:39 no, Chamblee's earned a right to go out there with the ones.
11:42 Dev hadn't practiced until yesterday.
11:44 He did get third down with the ones,
11:46 and he did get six plays the second time we ran out,
11:50 ones versus two with the ones.
11:51 Dev's a really good player,
11:53 but we certainly didn't want to disrespect Andrew
11:57 for all the great work that he's done,
11:59 but he did get some ones as well.
12:01 Can I ask you another question about the receivers?
12:03 I noticed Jaden Wilson, I think,
12:04 has been getting some reps in the slot,
12:06 and then also Bryce moving out to the outside.
12:08 What went into that move?
12:09 Well, you know, we're trying to see
12:12 if he's one of our three top receivers
12:13 to run out there to first group.
12:15 I like him out there.
12:17 He got his shoulder banged up a little bit on Thursday,
12:19 put on a green jersey, practiced,
12:21 and then practiced in the scrimmage.
12:23 He was just not live with the ball in his hand,
12:26 but everything else, he was live.
12:28 I didn't want to disrespect the defense, you know, that way.
12:31 But, so, yeah, I think that's a good lineup
12:36 with Drew, Tesla, and Jaden in there.
12:42 Well, you've talked about Cam Riddles,
12:44 the Reigns, and how impressed you are by it.
12:46 How does that make you feel more comfortable
12:48 heading into a fourth down situation?
12:50 Do you think about that?
12:51 Well, every two-minute situation,
12:52 obviously, I'm out there, so I'm talking with KJ.
12:55 And let me tell you this.
12:57 We're going to put the ball in his hands,
12:58 you know, if it started in 12, to go win the game.
13:02 You know, we got a lead, and if we get a first down
13:04 and the game's over, we're going to put it in his hands
13:06 and figure out what he can do.
13:07 I have so much trust in him.
13:11 But the Lions move back now, I mean,
13:14 because if you're anywhere around the 40-yard line,
13:17 this dude's going to blast it now.
13:19 And today was no different.
13:20 We was on the 41, and he'll go, and that was right.
13:26 I mean, I don't know how long he can take it from there.
13:28 I guarantee he can take it six because he does it every day.
13:32 Yeah, a lot, a lot.
13:33 Helps us be a weapon big time.
13:36 Sam, earlier you said Jeff Cope is a bad man.
13:39 What, in your opinion, what are you seeing
13:41 that makes you say that, and what kind of a camp's he in?
13:46 Jeff Cope's not there for sure.
13:58 [Indistinct]
13:59 This is what an all-American [Indistinct]
14:04 Only 23. This is 5.5.
14:08 He's 280. He can run 21.
14:12 21.
14:13 [Indistinct]
14:18 But very strong, very fast, great leader.
14:25 And to be honest with you, probably hungrier
14:26 than you've ever been in your life.
14:29 And that makes a big difference.
14:30 Okay.
14:35 [BLANK_AUDIO]
