00:00 We're going back to the 80s with a Jell-O poke cake.
00:04 Let's just get cooking.
00:05 So start with your cake mix.
00:07 Three eggs, oil.
00:09 And then we just whip it up.
00:12 That was easy.
00:15 And it goes into a nine by 13.
00:17 This is just, to me, the easiest way
00:19 to make a cake and serve a cake.
00:21 Grease it and pour my batter in.
00:23 Spread it out evenly.
00:26 There's just something nostalgic already
00:27 about the smell of a yellow box cake.
00:29 This goes into a 350 degree oven
00:32 for about 24 minutes or so
00:34 until a toothpick comes out clean.
00:36 Our cake is cooled, ready to go.
00:39 Time to start poking.
00:41 You can use a wooden spoon.
00:43 You can use a fork.
00:44 I'm gonna use a skewer.
00:46 I don't like 'em too close together
00:47 'cause I wanna kinda create that swirly tie-dye effect.
00:51 Now for the pour over.
00:53 Now you can do whatever kinda Jell-O flavors you like.
00:57 I'm going strawberry, of course.
00:58 But there are lots of recipes for other types of poke cakes.
01:01 There's pineapple filling.
01:03 There's creamy custard fillings.
01:05 You know, the possibilities are endless.
01:07 So first thing I'm gonna do is dissolve my Jell-O
01:10 in some cold water.
01:12 Then I'm gonna add in the boiling water and pour it over.
01:16 You'll wanna pour the liquid over
01:17 while it's still really hot.
01:19 And then it's all gonna set within the cake.
01:21 Don't worry, it's not gonna be soggy.
01:23 This goes into the fridge to set up at least an hour.
01:27 Be better if you could go four to six hours
01:29 or even better, overnight.
01:31 Chilled and ready to serve.
01:34 It's good to go as is.
01:36 I'm gonna top it with some whipped cream
01:39 because to me, whipped cream and Jell-O just go together.
01:42 Look at that.
01:43 Look how cute that little tie-dye strawberry goodness is.
01:46 What I love about poke cakes is they're not intimidating
01:49 and they're just a whole lot of fun.
01:50 And you can customize it however you like it.
01:53 This reminds me of strawberry shortcake.
01:55 You know how the syrupy juice from the strawberry
01:58 soaks into the cake?
01:59 That's exactly what that tastes like.
02:03 All you need are a couple ingredients
02:04 straight from your pantry
02:05 and you can whip up this dessert in no time.
02:07 Happy summer.
02:08 Our cake is cooled and ready to be.
02:11 (laughs)
02:13 you
