This week sees the announcement of A Level results, with GCSE results following the week after. I'm here on the streets of Birmingham to find out people's memories of receiving their own exam results - were there any disappointments or positive surprises on those highly anticipated days?

00:00 Okay, I'll jump on this because I feel very passionate about this.
00:04 It may not be textbook, shall we say, but I just think young people need to work hard, yes,
00:12 stay on their journey, yes, 100%, but don't get stressed out.
00:18 Don't let it affect your mental health to a level that you think it's the be all and end all.
00:23 Honestly, I have three children that have all gone down the same route.
00:27 That schools, we all know about schools and the pressure and results are for them, understand that,
00:33 but a little happy medium would be good.
00:35 It's not, we don't have to conform to how I was brought up and this is the way it has to be.
00:41 We can step off that now.
00:43 So if you don't get the high level results you want, it's not the end of the world, it's nothing worth,
00:48 none of that is worth your mental health taking such a decline in, that you think it's the end,
00:54 and it's, you know, you are only 18.
00:57 I would say whatever happens, happens.
01:01 I remember myself being really, really nervous about my results, both A level and GCSE,
01:07 because obviously then there's a pressure for both GCSEs to get into the A levels, A levels to uni.
01:13 I think you've done the exams now, so you need to not worry, then whatever happens, happens.
01:20 But I remember, yeah, myself being really nervous, also then being relieved once I'd got the results,
01:25 but it was more the build up to getting them was just, I couldn't focus on anything else for like the week leading up to that.
01:31 So probably yes, try not to stress too much if you're waiting for your results.
01:36 Yeah, don't, I think GCSEs were okay, A levels not so great, but you know, don't panic.
01:44 You can do, there's always second chances, other ways to sort of get qualifications and get into uni,
01:50 or you find your passion, so don't panic too much if you don't get what you want.
01:55 I think, I can remember getting my A level results being quite a big deal,
02:00 because you're finding out where you go to uni or what you're doing next with your life,
02:04 so it's like the next step really, but I'd just say like, you've come this far and now you can keep going.
02:11 Like, yeah, so well done for getting to that point anyway.
02:16 At the beginning of my life, I was not a good student, but my parents pushed me.
02:23 That's why my GCSE result was very good. I got all A+.
02:29 But I think nowadays, the result of exam is not important, important how they are learning.
02:39 So I am welcoming everyone who is doing very good result, who is not doing very well, everyone.
02:48 Whatever your results is, I believe you can use that results in order to achieve the future that is written for you,
02:55 whether you want it or you don't want it.
02:57 However, just work with what you get and be happy because you worked for this results,
03:02 so be happy for what the outcome is.
