00:00 Former Texas A&M offensive lineman Jake Matthews was a huge part of the Aggies
00:04 trenches during his time in College Station and now he is being honored for
00:08 his impact on the program. Matthews was one of eight former athletes to be named
00:13 a member of Texas A&M Letterman's Association 2023 Athletics Hall of Fame
00:18 class. Son of Hall of Fame offensive tackle Bruce Matthews, Jake became one of
00:23 the top linemen to don the Aggie maroon in the 2010s. A four-year starter,
00:29 Matthews was a two-time first-team All-American and a finalist for the
00:33 Outland Trophy during his senior season. A part of that first season in the SEC,
00:38 Matthews blocked for Heisman Trophy winner in Johnny Manziel. The season A&M
00:43 became the first SEC program to finish with over 7,000 yards of total offense
00:48 in a single season. Drafted number six overall by the Atlanta Falcons in 2014,
00:54 Matthews has the longest starting streak among O-linemen with 145
00:59 consecutive games played. All inductees will be honored at the 45th Burgess
01:04 Banquet on Friday, September 15th prior to the week 3 matchup against University
