00:00 -Well it sounds good. -Eric, how much
00:04 work do you want to get in this game? -As much as DA wants me to play.
00:08 Like any time... The honest thing about this the other day, because someone was asking me a question
00:12 about playing preseason, I'm like, you know what, when you've been cut
00:16 and released, any chance you can put a uniform on in an NFL game,
00:20 take full advantage. You want me to play the whole game, I'll play the whole game gladly because I'm not gonna take any of this
00:24 for granted. So whatever he asks of us,
00:28 it's usually not as much as you ever want it to be because you're starting to feel
00:32 good and then bam you're done. But whatever they ask,
00:36 we'll do it. I need all the work I can get.
00:40 -If there's not the actual camera action
00:44 out there today, what would the feel be out there practicing?
00:48 -When that ball snapped it felt like I was in the dome playing a game.
00:52 Except not everybody was mad at me.
00:56 It was a lot of fun. We did like I think really
01:00 one team just move the ball period and that was
01:04 cool to just get in and out of the huddle, call plays. It felt like game like
01:08 through the headset, all that kind of stuff. It was awesome. It's fun
01:12 to throw in there. The ball spins off pretty nice.
01:16 -It looks like you guys have a really natural
01:20 connection right now in practice. -Yeah, especially just on that drive
01:24 we got three or four passes. That's
01:28 the recipe for a good day if you can do that on one drive.
01:32 With all of the weapons and talent we have with Pete and our offensive staff's
01:36 mind and our offensive line being able to let those guys go
01:41 get open, it's a lot of fun to be their quarterback, especially a guy like Chris
01:45 who works so hard. Usually your best players
01:49 and your hardest workers, usually if that's the case it's gonna
01:53 work out alright. -Anything that stands out about Chris besides like
01:57 the athleticism, speed, stuff that we can see easy, does he
02:01 do stuff that makes it easy on you as a quarterback? -Absolutely. Today he ran around
02:05 and there's supposed to be a high angle on it. He took that angle. Of course
02:09 the honey man, as I call him.
02:13 He saw it coming and he was trying to go pick it off.
02:17 I knew where I wanted Chris to go and he started to do it before I even
02:21 thought about it. It was like for him to get that in year two
02:25 on really a new route
02:29 was really impressive to me. He came back to the ball, we were able to get a big
02:33 explosive out of it. That kind of stuff right there, obviously
02:37 you guys see the speed, you see the routes, you guys can see the catches that he's been
02:41 making. Something little like that would be hard if you weren't in our playbook.
02:45 What he did on that was really unbelievable. -When's the last time
02:49 you played in a preseason game? -Oh man.
02:53 Y'all might know better than me. Did we play last year?
02:57 I don't think... We didn't play one last year. -I did.
03:01 [laughter]
03:05 -I don't know after that. I'm sorry. I know I have, but
03:09 I don't know. -It's been a while. -It's been a while. But it's okay.
03:13 This is new. I would, in this circumstance,
03:17 I'd be asking for it for sure. -Can you expand a little bit on how much
03:22 the fact that you're new here influences your desire to be out there in the
03:26 preseason or how much you think you should be out there? -Yeah, absolutely.
03:30 I feel like any reps I can get,
03:34 even if it's go out there and hand the ball off, I don't care. Just to get out there
03:38 and get the rhythm of this is what we do, this is how we come off the sideline
03:42 and talk about things. This is where as little as where do I sit, I haven't
03:46 even been in the locker room yet. I don't know where to park. All of those
03:50 things that are new. To have a
03:54 test run or two of that, to be able to see that to where
03:58 week one comes and I'm just back playing football. Get all those little things
04:02 knocked out and know what to expect come game day.
04:06 -Any nerves come with that? -No, not...
04:10 It'll be my tenth year. I really don't get nervous anymore. I just
04:14 get excited and just want to go out there and try and do my best. I think
04:18 that's why some teams have a lot of veteran players
04:22 and they kind of calm the younger guys down. You got this, just like practice.
04:26 Just do this and that kind of stuff. I think
04:30 the older you get, the more football you play. It just becomes like
04:34 I'm just gonna go out there and try and do my job rather than like oh, it's NFL.
04:38 I don't want to lose the awe of it, but I don't get that
04:42 from the young. -Derek, going against the Chiefs,
04:46 I think I heard you comment and I think it's
04:50 so true. You said it's where when you don't know the script
04:54 in the scoring on that touchdown. You know what I'm talking about,
04:58 when all of a sudden... Because you're in the meetings and you're always practicing against one
05:03 another. You got to welcome that going against KC and then ultimately next week
05:07 against the Chargers. -Yeah, I was literally just talking to Drew last night about like
05:11 did they cheat on y'all's routes too when you were here? They're out there, we're breaking
05:15 the huddle and they're calling out our play. We're in a different
05:19 play out of this formation. Honestly, it makes
05:23 practice so hard. Like I said, it's competitive. It's tough. The windows
05:27 are tight because sometimes they may know what's coming or not. Maybe they just
05:31 don't know. It is nice when you can just get into a
05:35 game and they can't just read the mail and know what it is.
05:39 That doesn't necessarily mean it's a big game plan or anything like that
05:43 for a preseason game, but it is nice knowing that hey this is their looks, this is
05:47 what we're going to do and they can't read it before we run. -Derek, from your perspective
05:51 what is special about Morshot Latimer looking at him on the other side?
05:55 -I'd still say this, it's his competitiveness. The one thing
05:59 that I was very curious in saying, because I haven't been in practice with him a lot of time,
06:03 was I know he's an intense guy on game day. I know he's an ultimate competitor
06:07 in this league, but can he withstand that in all the practices?
06:11 I've been watching that and he does. He's always on it
06:15 from walk through. I always joke with him
06:19 with the defense, they'll go and pick a ball off and walk through. I'll say you gotta get it now
06:23 or you're not gonna get it in the team. All that stuff. Those guys
06:27 show it every single day. Like in the team drills, you guys have
06:31 watched it more than I have in practice. He gets after everybody. He doesn't care who's
06:35 in front of him, whether it's a veteran player, a young player. He is trying
06:39 to dominate all the time. I think that that's what makes him one of the best
06:44 defensive players and corners in our league. He's been
06:48 very impressive to me that he's withstood all these practices and he still does that
06:52 at that position. -Thank you, Derek.
