00:00 Actress Rani Mukherjee, who was earlier seen in the film Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway in
00:10 March 2023, has revealed that she went through a personal tragedy in 2020 when she had a
00:16 miscarriage five months into her second pregnancy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:21 The actress made the revelation at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, the inauguration
00:26 of which was held recently.
00:29 She also said that she chose to refrain from talking about the tragedy during the release
00:33 of Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway as it would have been seen as a promotional strategy.
00:38 Addressing the media at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Rani shared, "Maybe this is
00:43 the first time I am making this revelation because in today's world, every aspect of
00:47 your life is discussed publicly and becomes an agenda for talking about your film to get
00:52 more eyeballs.
00:53 Obviously, I did not speak about this when I was promoting the film because it would
00:58 have come across as me trying to speak about a personal experience that would propel the
01:03 film.
01:04 So, it was around the year when COVID-19 struck.
01:07 It was 2020.
01:08 I was pregnant with my second baby at the end of 2020 and I unfortunately lost my baby
01:14 five months into my pregnancy."
01:17 She further mentioned that Nikhil Adwani, who worked as an assistant on her film Kuch
01:20 Kuch Hota Hai and is one of the producers of Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway, called her
01:25 in 2020 within 10 days of her miscarriage to share the story that he had in mind.
01:30 The actress continued, "After I lost my baby, Nikhil would have called me probably like
01:34 a 10 days later.
01:35 He told me about the story and I kind of immediately knew not that I had to have the loss of a
01:41 child to feel the emotion but sometimes there's a film in the right time of what you are going
01:46 through personally to be able for you to connect with it instantly.
01:49 When I heard the story, I was in disbelief."
01:53 I never thought in a country like Norway, an Indian family would have had to go through
01:57 a shialet.
01:58 Rani and Aditi Chopra, the head honko of their short films, tied the knot in 2014 after dating
02:04 for a few years.
02:05 Their daughter Adira was born in 2015.
