00:08 - Well, the Goblin Shark has a very interesting physique.
00:16 Kind of got this whitish, pinkish, light skin.
00:19 It's got very protuberant jaws and a very large,
00:23 almost shovel-like snout.
00:25 Definitely a little bit spooky,
00:28 but it's the least we can say about it.
00:30 - [Narrator] Less than 50 specimens
00:32 have been observed in all of the waters.
00:33 Most of them were young.
00:35 No one knows how big an adult this shark is,
00:38 but a six-meter shark would have been seen.
00:41 - First of all, it's a deep sea shark,
00:43 which means it lives in very deep water,
00:46 where it's almost completely dark,
00:47 black with all the time.
00:49 And second of all, it's one of the rare sea sharks
00:52 that has teeth showing,
00:53 sticking out of its mouth when its mouth is closed.
00:56 So it looks really, really mean all the time.
00:59 (upbeat music)
01:01 - As it's sitting here, it's not recognizing the shark,
01:12 except for maybe its dorsal fin,
01:14 its pectoral fins here, and its gills.
01:17 And it's got this amazingly long nose,
01:20 and it's got a lot of deep sea shells,
01:22 a lot of deep sea shells that are heavy like this.
01:25 (upbeat music)
01:27 - If you open the jaws,
01:37 you can see how wide the jaws protrude,
01:41 and this helps the velcro to catch prey in the sea.
01:44 (upbeat music)
01:47 If you want a weird shark,
01:51 there's nothing weirder than this.
01:53 And yet, there is.
01:55 (upbeat music)
01:58 The lizard shark is a very old animal.
02:04 It's hundreds of meters under the surface.
02:06 - The frilled shark is another very strange species.
02:12 We don't know that much about it,
02:14 except that it looks prehistoric.
02:16 - It has a simple skeleton,
02:19 and teeth similar to those of the squalls
02:21 that lived 95 million years ago.
02:24 And that's not all.
02:26 - It has more gills than the average,
02:29 and the gills are connected on both sides,
02:31 and sometimes howl around the mouth like frills.
02:34 The frilled shark is a deep sea predator,
02:37 and has bright white teeth,
02:39 and swims around with his mouth open.
02:40 The light is reflecting that light on his teeth,
02:43 and it's easy attracting prey,
02:44 and that's what's attracting the prey.
02:46 - Some people think it attacks like a snake.
02:50 It would roll its body long and thin
02:53 before it would leap on its prey.
02:54 - They live in areas where there is very little light,
03:00 and it's very difficult to go,
03:02 and we can't film it in its natural environment,
03:05 so we know very little about them.
