A stay-at-home mum has defended her choice to employ a full-time nanny – saying it gives her the “energy and patience” to be the best mum she can be.

Jen Miller, 35 - who is a full-time mum to her two-year-old daughter, Liberty - opted to hire a nanny for support during the day.

Jen says her hire helped gives her time and space to focus on her self-care routine and gym workouts while her little girl is looked after.

00:00 I'm a stay-at-home mom with a full-time nanny,
00:01 and this is what a typical day in my life looks like.
00:04 For the past seven years, I've run my own business,
00:06 but decided to take some time off from clients
00:08 to focus on a few other projects.
00:09 My husband runs his own startup,
00:11 which means he works long hours
00:12 and puts in work seven days a week.
00:14 We don't have any family in Austin where we live,
00:16 so our nanny offers the support I need.
00:18 You might be wondering why we need full-time help
00:19 if I'm home every day, and here's the rationale why.
00:22 When we had our daughter, my husband and I decided
00:24 that at least for now, his responsibility
00:26 would be taking care of our finances,
00:28 and mine would be taking care of everything else
00:30 for our family.
00:31 I'm up at 5 a.m. every morning to get my workout in
00:33 before our daughter wakes up.
00:34 I spend the mornings with her until our nanny arrives at 8.
00:36 After walking the dog and getting myself ready,
00:38 I head to my office to work.
00:40 I run our house like I ran my business,
00:41 using project management software
00:43 to stay on top of all operations,
00:45 from daily to-dos to planning travel,
00:47 managing our Airbnb, working on our shared side hustle,
00:49 scheduling social and volunteer time,
00:51 and carving out hours for admin, errands,
00:53 household, and creative work.
00:54 When our nanny leaves at four, I'm back on mom duty,
00:56 making dinner, doing bath time,
00:58 and getting our daughter down for bed.
00:59 Evenings are for winding down and resetting.
01:01 Our nanny spends 40 hours a week with our daughter,
01:03 but so do I.
01:04 It's a full-time job, and having help lets me show up
01:07 as the best mom I can be, with more patience, energy,
01:10 and excitement for the time we spend together.
