00:00 Hi, my name is Sam from Sussex World and here are today's top stories from around the
00:04 county for Monday, August 7th.
00:05 A mob of meerkats have just hit a park in Sussex, have developed a special method for
00:09 predicting the results of England's football games, and correctly predicted the number
00:12 of games in their run-up to the Lionesses' triumph in the 2022 Euros, and have now predicted
00:16 the Lionesses' triumph over Nigeria in a round of 16 clash.
00:21 Using two bags of treats, each with the team's flag on, the meerkats are left to choose which
00:25 bucket they prefer to eat from, and the bucket surrounded by the most meerkats is declared
00:29 the predicted winner.
00:31 And when the meerkats went to go to the food, England was predicted to come out on top.
00:38 In Brighton, police are appearing for witnesses after a collision on the seafront.
00:42 Emergency services responded to the collision with involving a car and a pedestrian in Kings
00:45 Road at about 5am on Monday, August 7th.
00:49 The pedestrian, a 32-year-old man from Mayersfield, sustained serious injuries and was taken to
00:53 hospital where he remains.
00:56 And finally, Eastbourne Borough Council leader Stephen Holt has responded to claims by Eastbourne
01:00 MP Caroline Ansell that a council-owned building in the town has discharged thousands of litres
01:04 of raw sewage.
01:06 The town's MP and Councillor Penny Decaro joined Southern Water's Misconnections team
01:10 to see the misconnections work first-hand, and were updated on progress in finding sewage
01:16 and wastewater pipes wrongly and illegally connected to surface water drainage.
01:20 During the visit, the MP found the bathroom to be connected to surface water pipes that
01:23 go straight into the sea, taking untreated sewage and other waste items like toilet paper
01:27 with it.
01:28 However, these claims have been outright refuted by the Eastbourne Borough Council leader.
01:32 Bye.
