Michael Jackson was born here August 29, 1958 along with his brothers here. The hospital founded in 1908 closed due to massive population decline in Gary. This population decline was due to massive layoffs from the steel mill, economic factors and white flight. The hospital accumulated a massive amount of debt before finally closed in the year 1995. I found some documents inside with dates close to this time. The hospital could not turn a profit and could not find a buyer to bail them out.
