Are Patriots & Cowboys Among Teams That Should Trade for Colts RB Jonathan Taylor?
Transcript
00:00 The Indianapolis Colts are at war with running back Jonathan Taylor,
00:05 who has requested a trade in part because he wants a new contract.
00:08 And maybe in part because Colts owner Jim Irsay has issued a series of mind
00:13 numbing quotes about death and this situation.
00:18 Mike Fisher reporting on the NFL and the Dallas Cowboys.
00:21 Meanwhile, the Cowboys have had their running back issues.
00:24 Ezekiel Elliott released, Ronald Jones now with the two game suspension,
00:28 Tony Pollard gonna be the number one guy and that should be fine.
00:32 But I don't blame anybody for on the surface saying, now wait a minute,
00:36 Jonathan Taylor's available.
00:37 Hey, how do we do that?
00:39 They're gonna trade him, he wants out, how do we do it?
00:41 Every team should take a minute to contemplate how to steal
00:47 Jonathan Taylor from Jim Irsay.
00:50 But then should come minute number two,
00:53 at which point logic should enter the conversation.
00:57 Unless you are an ESPN hot take talking head.
01:03 Dan Orlovsky, who actually played the game at the highest level,
01:10 at quarterback, is at it again as the ESPN TV guys are now spending the days
01:16 seeing which one of them can say something more outrageous than their predecessor,
01:20 especially about the Dallas Cowboys.
01:22 Orlovsky is proposing a trade.
01:25 The Cowboys should call the Colts and they should take Jonathan Taylor.
01:29 Said that on the Pat McAfee show.
01:31 And I think McAfee tried to talk some sense into him and
01:34 Orlovsky just kept going.
01:36 He said it's $4 million for this year.
01:38 He says, I know Dallas has money issues, but if you're the Cowboys,
01:41 you've gotta be all in.
01:43 Orlovsky says, I don't know what the pick would be and all that stuff.
01:45 That's not my area of expertise, but I would call.
01:48 Enter somebody that knows what they're talking about.
01:54 This is ESPN ignorance at its highest, well, lowest.
02:00 And we'll do this item by item by item.
02:05 Item, Orlovsky did not and does not seem to understand that if Taylor's unhappy
02:10 with his $4 million salary in 2022 with the Colts, he'll be unhappy making $4
02:15 million for the next team too.
02:17 So the idea of a one team rental is not gonna make anybody happy.
02:21 Item, Orlovsky does not seem to understand that Dallas does not have
02:25 money problems.
02:27 I don't know why people keep saying this when you can click a button and
02:30 see that the Cowboys have $20 million in cap room.
02:33 That, by the way, is number four in the NFL.
02:35 They have the fourth most cap room today in the NFL.
02:39 That's even after having signed Trayvon Diggs to his almost $100 million deal.
02:44 If they extend Dak Prescott, by the way, they can have $40 million with the room.
02:48 Now, much of that is earmarked for other stars, but
02:52 any team can sign anybody that they want to at any time in terms of salary cap,
02:57 availability, and the Cowboys are absolutely and obviously no different.
03:01 And the numbers say it so.
03:02 However, the Cowboys don't wanna pay $10 million to two running backs.
03:09 That's what Tony Pollard makes.
03:11 No team pays $10 million, or if rumors are true about Jonathan Taylor,
03:16 maybe he wants $15 million.
03:18 No team's gonna pay a backup running back $10 or
03:20 $15 million, or a share time running back $10 or $15 million.
03:24 That's preposterous.
03:26 You wouldn't do that in a non-salary cap sport or a non-salary cap era.
03:31 It's laughable to think otherwise.
03:33 If Jonathan Taylor comes to Dallas,
03:37 let's in theory say he's better than Tony Pollard.
03:39 So now you have a backup running back making $10 million?
03:44 It's ridiculous.
03:47 Item, Orlovsky seems convinced that the Colts are trading Taylor.
03:51 To me, that's a dubious claim.
03:54 But in the next breath, he notes that he doesn't know anything about the trade
03:58 cost, which to me, I would say would be a premium draft pick for starters.
04:02 It's not my area of expertise, to which I reply, apparently not.
04:07 Apparently, trading for Jonathan Taylor is not your area of expertise.
04:14 Taylor led the NFL in rushing two seasons ago, 1,800 yards, 18 touchdowns.
04:19 First team All-Pro, age 24, might be the best running back in football.
04:23 And on the surface, every team would love to employ him.
04:27 On the surface, the Dallas Cowboys and every team would love to employ him.
04:31 There's reasons for other teams to call.
04:33 There's reasons for the Patriots to call.
04:35 There's reasons for the Bills to do their research.
04:37 There's reason for the Commanders to do their research.
04:40 There's reason for the Rams to do their.
04:41 All of them should think about it.
04:43 Take a minute and think about it.
04:44 On the surface, too bad ESPN's hot take talking heads seem so
04:50 incapable of researching, thinking, and
04:53 communicating even an inch below that aforementioned surface.
04:59 Fish out.
