00:00 "Hi, perhaps you recognize me. It's your favorite president.
00:03 And I'm standing in front of the Oval Office at the White House."
00:07 Donald Trump has been indicted on charges relating to his attempts to stay in the White
00:12 House despite losing the 2020 election.
00:14 A Washington, D.C. grand jury voted to charge the former president with
00:18 "conspiring to defraud the United States, conspiring to disenfranchise voters, and conspiring
00:26 and attempting to obstruct an official proceeding."
00:29 The charges come after a long-running probe into the events leading up to the January
00:33 6 attack, when a riotous mob of Mr. Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol in hopes of
00:39 blocking the final certification of his loss to Mr. Biden.
00:43 But the ex-president and his co-defendants are not being charged for organizing or inciting
00:49 what was the worst attack on the Capitol since 1814.
00:52 Instead, the charges against them are over the variety of strategies by which Mr. Trump
00:58 and his allies thought he could reverse or override the will of voters.
01:03 The latest charges, levied against the twice-impeached, now thrice-indicted former president, are
01:08 the first of two possible sets of charges that he could face as a result of his efforts
01:13 to unlawfully overturn the election result.
01:17 A separate grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia, has also been hearing evidence about efforts
01:21 by Mr. Trump and his allies to pressure officials into reversing Mr. Biden's win there.
01:27 "So what are we going to do here folks?
01:28 I only need 11,000 votes.
01:30 Fellas, I need 11,000 votes.
01:32 Give me a break."
01:34 The false narratives of a stolen election has been held onto by Mr. Trump's supporters
01:38 since 2020, initially after the election, and even more recently as he remains at the
01:44 center of the former president's campaign as he runs for president, possibly as a convicted
01:49 criminal.
