00:02 Let's move on to the most talkative coach right now in the NFL.
00:06 Here we go, Sean Payton, boy, he's gone from media, doing a lot of media here,
00:11 it looks like, Mike.
00:11 It just doesn't stop, talked a lot about the Jets and some other teams and
00:16 what went wrong in Denver.
00:17 Boy, he is really putting himself out there.
00:19 But the great news here is that we actually have somebody in the NFL talking
00:23 about the betting policies in the NFL.
00:26 What did Sean Payton say, Mike, specifically, that caught your eye?
00:29 >> Yeah, I mean, look, the Broncos defensive end, his defensive end got
00:33 suspended, became the tenth player since April to be suspended for gambling.
00:37 And he basically said, shame on us, these guys cannot be at the facility,
00:40 they have to be away from the team for at least one year, right?
00:42 This defensive end, Waziruike, he can't be reinstated,
00:46 I believe, until July of next year, right?
00:48 So he's gonna miss the whole season, all training camp.
00:51 I don't necessarily have a problem with that, personally.
00:52 I just think you do the crime, you do the time, right?
00:55 If you were doing performance enhancing drugs,
00:58 you couldn't be near the team, probably.
01:00 It's the same kind of thing.
01:02 But Payton said basically these rules were confusing, right?
01:05 He had one of the higher ups in the organization, hey,
01:08 let's throw this league policy out and then you kind of break it down piecemeal
01:12 for the players so they can understand it.
01:14 I do think, obviously, there was some sort of miscommunication,
01:16 whether the NFL didn't offer enough education or
01:18 the players weren't listening at the time.
01:20 The league was telling them, hey, you cannot bet on NFL games, right?
01:23 That's kind of where this comes down for me,
01:25 in terms of this Broncos defense event.
01:26 Again, he bets on NFL games.
01:28 I mean, what are you doing?
01:29 That's the number one rule.
01:30 Do not bet on NFL games.
01:31 The other one is a bit more convoluted as to, hey,
01:34 if you're at the practice facility, you can't bet.
01:36 But if you go into the parking lot or
01:38 the street next to the facility, you can bet, right?
01:41 So I can kind of understand there's a gray area there.
01:43 You know, why not just be able to bet?
01:45 Or again, whether you can do this or not, you know, firewall the practice facility
01:49 off, so if you're on FanDuel and you're a player on the prohibited list on
01:52 the practice facility grounds, you cannot bet.
01:54 If you try to bet, it'll bounce back and say, no, you cannot do this, right?
01:57 And again, I think it's just the education programs you hope,
02:00 and during mini camp, a lot of these teams had NFL representatives there
02:04 who continued to reiterate the policy.
02:06 They've done it to, you know, the extent where they had reporters on.
02:09 Here's what our presentation kind of looks like, right, the PowerPoint slide.
02:12 So, you know, you hope again, a lot of these cases were guys that were
02:16 at the practice facility, logged in, bet on NFL games where they shouldn't have been,
02:20 and got banned six games.
02:21 You hope those go away.
02:22 You know, you hope it all goes away at this point, right?
02:25 By next summer, you hope that there aren't 10 cases from last season, right?
02:30 And then I asked the NFL recently, is the 22 cases over?
02:33 Because that's what a lot of these cases were from last season, didn't get a response.
02:36 So again, maybe we're still dealing with more of these from last season.
02:39 You hope that at least by the preseason week one, if not the regular season week one,
02:43 we've moved on from 22 and we're into 2023, because this is super disappointing.
02:47 Again, Peyton said, shame on us.
02:48 He said, you know, anything where you can't carry a gun, you can't bet, right?
02:52 That's kind of extreme to me.
02:54 You know, I get it.
02:55 I get what he's saying, but you know, compared to guns and gambling, eh, whatever.
02:58 Anyway, you know, very strong pointed comments by him, and you hope that his players get
03:03 on the same page.
03:04 They finally understand what they can and can't do, and they don't bet on NFL games,
03:07 and they don't bet at the practice facility.
03:09 You know, at this point, again, you're just stupid if you do that.
