Do you have any letters to post? Well from the start of this week, some stamps will no longer be accepted. Those found using the old kind run the risk of sending their recipient a surcharge along with their birthday card! Here's everything you need to know about the changes to the postal service in place from the beginning of August.
Transcript
00:00 Stamps that look like this, with barcodes to one side, were first introduced back in
00:05 February of last year. It was hoped the addition of the barcode would make the service more
00:09 efficient and improve security. From the 1st August, using an old-style stamp without the
00:15 barcode will mean your recipient will have to pay an extra £1.10 to receive their letter.
00:21 However, commemorative and non-barcoded Christmas stamps will still be valid. But if you still
00:26 have some of the old stamps left lying around, don't worry, you haven't wasted your money.
00:31 There's no deadline to send those stamps off to Royal Mail to be exchanged for new ones
00:34 as part of their Swap Out scheme. Those stamps eligible for swapping are the regular, 1st
00:39 and 2nd class everyday stamps featuring the late Queen Elizabeth.
00:43 Talking about the scheme, a spokesperson said a leaflet with a form was delivered to every
00:47 household recently. But customers can also print out a form from our website, call our
00:52 customer experience team to order one or pick one up at a local Royal Mail delivery office
00:57 or post office.
