00:00 communication with them. But you know that's a gorgeous thing right there.
00:05 I was trying to pick out a shirt late last night. I was like I don't know what to wear.
00:08 My girlfriend and I were talking. I'll go with this tight end shirt.
00:14 It'll be good for George. He kind of started all that.
00:18 So I thought it was good for not only George but the brand, the tight ends.
00:22 And the guys in the building in Iowa.
00:28 I remember I think it was the Maryland game. You got your first pancake and Sam
00:32 told us about how he came up. I got a pancake. But what does that speak to
00:38 your physical development at Iowa? Because I think I remember you more as a
00:41 small forward as opposed to a tight end three or four years ago.
00:47 Yeah absolutely. I think in high school I probably had more of a basketball type body.
00:51 I think I was like 205 my senior year playing football.
00:54 So it just really is a testament to the strength program at Iowa.
01:01 You get in there and I gained like 20 pounds my first summer.
01:06 So it is very easy to go in there. There's so much food. You can't go hungry in that place.
01:11 And then they're gonna make you lift the right weights
01:15 and do the right workouts and stuff like that.
01:19 So it's very hard not to succeed. Why do you think Kurt picked you to come here?
01:26 No he didn't tell me why. We kind of voted on it amongst the
01:31 leadership council. So there are about 15 guys on there and so we all kind of
01:37 voted on it. I'm extremely honored to be here. I don't know. I don't like to talk about myself all that much.
01:45 Were you a backup tight end? I mean I guess but I think that I contributed a lot.
01:52 Why do you think you're so much better?
01:56 I feel really confident in my abilities. That's the main thing.
02:01 I think the more thing you got to be confident in what you're doing.
02:05 So I feel like going into the last couple games last year I had a little bit more
02:08 opportunities to go out there and play. I think that really helped for this upcoming season.
02:13 What's your impression of Kurt Benzie?
02:19 He's made a lot of impacts. It's really cool to get to know new people.
02:25 And just like know people with a different background.
02:28 He's not the only guy that even transferred in.
02:32 You got Eric from Michigan as well and all these other guys that have come in too.
02:36 It's just really cool to see that bring their experience at their different school into our locker room.
02:43 Just trying to bring the best things that they brought from their program this far.
02:47 Do you get a sense like Eric, do you feel like they're motivated?
02:53 Yeah, I think everyone's motivated. It's not just those two.
02:57 I think that we're all really excited for this season to start.
03:03 At the end of the day everyone just wants to go out there and win.
03:07 The offense struggled last year. What gives you confidence that it's going to be better?
03:12 What have you seen and how do you feel about it right now?
03:15 For this upcoming season, I think that Brian Ferencz has made a lot of good changes in the offense.
03:22 I've seen a lot of things I really like. Going out there, he can tell.
03:27 I'm talking to Niko Organi who's been in the program for six years now.
03:32 [laughter]
03:37 We talk and we're just like, "Dang, this is really good. It's cool."
03:41 He sees that and I think that's the really cool thing.
03:45 Even just getting new guys and guys that are coming back ready to go, I think that's the biggest thing.
03:50 You're sensing scheme changes or just tweaks? How would you describe it?
03:56 A little bit of both. A little bit of both, I'd say.
03:59 Does that have something to do with Cade and the way he plays too? Does that make it different?
04:04 Yeah, you want to try to do your best. As offense coordinator, I don't want to speak for Brian.
04:09 I'm sure that he wants to look at the guys that he has and go and do whatever it takes to help the team win.
04:17 I don't think that last year--I don't even need to talk about last year at this point.
04:23 But you know what I'm saying.
04:25 We talk about Caleb Johnson a whole lot. How good can he be as a running back?
04:30 Caleb is a really good player. He's so young, which is the good thing.
04:34 He's so raw. He's such a raw talent.
04:36 I think the biggest thing, though, is the other guys in the room too that are going to help the running back room.
04:41 We've got LeSean Williams and Jazzy Ann Patterson as well.
04:44 I'm really excited to block for those three. Those are three great guys that I'm just so excited for.
04:50 Are you going to block him? Is your dad going to block him? Did he say that?
04:55 Yeah, I think that he does every once in a while. He just tells me to go out there and be mean.
05:02 That's the biggest thing. He wants to go and really help me be the best player I can be.
05:08 I'd say that's the biggest thing, just go be mean.
