02:00:49 - And then they scrubbed us down with disinfectants
02:00:52 like we were diseased little animals.
02:00:55 - Sometimes they would get so sick from the food that they ate,
02:00:58 you know, that they would vomit.
02:01:00 - The staff and the supervisors were being fed bacon and eggs
02:01:04 that was delivered to them at the head of the dining area,
02:01:07 and they would sit there like kings and queens.
02:01:10 - The residential school was like being in jail.
02:01:14 - A life in prison for a crime you did not commit.
02:01:17 And my only crime was being born an Indian.
02:01:21 - They didn't teach us to love.
02:01:23 They taught us fear,
02:01:25 remember being waken and taken out of the room,
02:01:29 and then being sexually abused by the priests.
02:01:33 - Residential school kills the feelings in you.
02:01:35 The old saying, you beat the Indian out of the child.
02:01:38 Sometimes you beat the humanity out of the child.
02:01:42 - The priests and the nuns failed us
02:01:47 as Indian children put into their care very badly.
02:01:53 They were the problem. I wasn't.
02:01:56 We weren't the problem as children.
02:01:58 - The Truth and Reconciliation Commission
02:02:00 identified 3,200 deaths of children in residential schools,
02:02:04 but the real number is higher.
02:02:06 So many records are lacking.
02:02:08 The chair of the commission, Murray Sinclair,
02:02:10 has said the number of children who died
02:02:12 could be as high as 6,000.
02:02:14 - But I don't want to look at being a survivor.
02:02:16 I want to be a warrior towards justice
