00:00 He's solidly in the top 20.
00:03 Jet Lawrence despite not even racing supercross's fifth overall.
00:07 Nichols is back in action today because he's drifting toward the back of the top 20 and
00:11 he wants a guaranteed entry.
00:13 You got to be top 20 to do that.
00:16 Nichols is going to race motocross for the first time this year on a borrowed Kawasaki
00:20 at the number 45.
00:21 All right.
00:22 Car is sideways.
00:23 Revs are up.
00:24 We're ready at washugel.
00:25 And the gate is down.
00:26 And Jett has a good jump.
00:30 No, it's going to be one of the Yamahas.
00:33 I believe that's Dylan Ferrandez.
00:36 Not known necessarily for the starts but he's got one now.
00:39 Oh, he's seen Serrulo and Anderson come together.
00:42 Two Kawasaki teammates.
00:43 Jett Lawrence second.
00:44 Oh, and there's Sexton in fourth.
00:45 And he's quickly around Anderson.
00:46 >> Great job by chase.
00:47 Just sneak up the inside.
00:48 He was actually farther back than that.
00:49 But he makes a mistake.
00:50 I don't know if he's going to allow Jason Anderson to get back.
00:51 But as I said, he's got a great start.
00:52 >> He's got a great start.
00:53 >> He's got a great start.

02:09 >> He's got a great start.
02:10 >> He's got a great start.
02:11 >> He's got a great start.
02:12 >> He's got a great start.
02:13 >> He's got a great start.
02:14 >> He's got a great start.
02:15 >> He's got a great start.
02:16 >> He's got a great start.
02:17 >> He's got a great start.

02:20 >> He's got a great start.
02:21 >> He's got a great start.
02:22 >> He's got a great start.
02:23 >> He's got a great start.
02:24 >> He's got a great start.
02:25 >> He's got a great start.
02:27 >> The lead streak is kaput.
02:28 Sexton is third.
02:29 Master pool somehow has gotten around Anderson.
02:31 Pushing him to fifth.
02:32 Seeing Serrulo, Plesinger, Freddie Noren.
02:34 Jed beating a rider out of Australia making his debut today in America.
02:37 Ninth.
02:38 And Derek Drake, tenth.
02:39 And Jed is going to have to go back to work.
02:41 Ferrandez pulling away.
02:42 >> Yeah, now, this is why -- the reason we're kind of making fun of the lead in the lap.
02:46 But it's serious because it's something that these guys haven't done.
02:49 And coming into this track, we talked about, all right, does this favorite chase side of
02:53 Sexton over Jet Lawrence?
02:56 Well, yes and no.
02:58 I think it favors chase because he's had better results.
03:01 He's able to win a moto.
03:03 And I think with Dylan being in front of Jet and him leading the lap, it just puts Jet
03:07 like, oh, here we go again.
03:09 I never won at this track.
03:11 Now Dylan's in front of me.
03:13 What else?
03:14 So we're going to see what Jet Lawrence does.
03:16 I think the kid's smart enough and he's confident enough to just continue his way and be what
03:20 he's been doing all year.
03:22 >> He's seen a couple mistakes that we haven't seen from him all year.
03:25 And that's all because he's in second place right now.
03:27 But they're pulling away from J. Sexton.
03:29 >> Yeah, that's true.
03:30 So Ferrandez is on his game today.
03:31 He's not holding them up.
03:32 He's actually dragging them away from Sexton.
03:35 And Jet hasn't officially hole shot since red bud.
03:39 It happened at south wick.
03:41 We had millville.
03:42 But he was able to get into the lead very quickly and off four of those motos.
03:45 Today he's going to have to fight for a little bit more.
03:47 In fact, the way he passed Ferrandez in one moto and Sexton in another at south wick was
03:51 about 100 feet from the rip of the lead away.
03:53 Not quite the case today.
03:55 >> It was disrespectful.
03:56 So you know Dylan wasn't going to allow that to happen.
03:59 But again, we see Jet pulling tear offs right now.
04:02 There's a lot of things about being this specific track, being in front, it almost has -- you
04:08 have more of an advantage than a lot of other tracks.
04:10 Kind of like south wick, you know, having the advantage of having clear sand.
04:13 But J.T., what do you have for us?
04:16 >> I was just agreeing with your point there that I think it's so hard to tell people and
04:20 viewers at home how tricky this racetrack is between the lack of traction and the shadows.
04:24 You have to respect this track much more than many others.
04:27 And the best way I can show you is the way that J.T. Lawrence has approached this race so far.
04:31 He has been so incredibly patient on the opening lap where we saw races like south wick, races
04:36 like spring creek where he was unbridled aggression on that opening lap because the track would
04:40 allow it.
04:41 This is not the racetrack for that.
04:43 >> He's going for it now.
04:44 Had a little opening.
04:45 Ferrandez able to beat him to the spot.
04:47 But he's putting the press on now.
04:49 >> When you get to him, you're going to try to make that pass.
04:52 You can see all these little mistakes when J.T. tries to cut out a corner.
04:57 He slides out.
04:58 And that's what J.T. Was saying and why I keep saying it's important to be up front.
05:03 One, because of roost.
05:04 But also it's just really hard to make passes as we heard J.T.'s brother say the same thing.
05:10 And even earlier today.
05:11 So it's important for Dillon to just keep him.
05:13 Try to frustrate him.
05:15 See if he can make the mistakes.
05:17 I think chase Sexton, if he can stay up, he has the confidence for what he was able to
05:21 do last year but also last weekend by closing up ten seconds from J.T.
05:25 But he cannot allow J.T.
05:27 To get around Dillon and expect that to happen.
05:29 >> Another attack.
05:30 And an opening on the inside.
05:31 I don't know if it's going to be enough.
05:33 Somehow he did do it.
05:34 And J.T.
05:35 Lawrence to the lead.
05:36 >> Great pass by J.T.
05:37 He set that up going up horsepower hill.
05:39 He went up on that outside of Dillon and be able to square that up and get back into it.
05:44 I think he's doing a great job and J.T.
05:47 Down there.
05:49 >> So James, watching J.T.
05:51 Make the pass there, do you think that he is more worried about getting to the lead or
05:56 separation from Sexton?
05:58 Because me personally I don't think he's as concerned with Dillon as he is building that
06:01 gap over Sexton.
06:03 >> Yeah, that's a great question.
06:04 I do think it's about chase Sexton.
06:06 And we're going to find out.
06:08 Now we're going to see chase close up on Dillon.
06:10 And I wouldn't be surprised if chase tries to make that move or get around Dillon within
06:14 the next lap.
06:15 Because again, as I said, no matter how good chase is, this track is hard to make up time.
06:19 So if you allow a guy, as we saw in the 250 class, to get a four-second gap, on most tracks
06:24 that's seven or eight seconds.
06:26 And it's easy to override this track and make mistakes as we've seen a lot of these guys
06:30 do.
06:31 So J.T.
06:32 Putting chase in a spot where he's going to have to ride hard and see if he can catch
06:35 him.
06:36 And that's going to be tough.
06:37 >> Do you see some burner laps from J.T.
06:38 Right now?
06:39 Try to get away from him?
06:40 >> Yeah, I mean, I don't think what we saw last weekend, I don't think J.T.
06:43 Is going to allow that to happen.
06:45 If he can keep away from chase by going faster, then he's going to do that.
06:48 He does not want chase to have that same feeling that he got from that first moto.
06:52 Because I do believe if that happens, chase will get him this time.
06:56 You live once, you see it.
06:58 And I think chase is -- he knows the opportunity.
07:01 He's going to beat J.T.
07:03 He's got to be in front of him and do it.
07:05 I think he will if he catches him.
07:07 >> Not the push you'd expect from Sexton early in this one.
07:10 They've also got Jason Anderson still close here on that green.
07:13 Monster energy Kawasaki in fourth.
07:16 And Anderson qualified second today.
07:18 So he has had speed all day long.
07:21 Seen his teammate qualified third.
07:23 He's in fifth.
07:24 Now ahead of master pole.
07:26 Trying to get that factory car back.
07:28 They were able to pass the privateer on the H.B.I.
07:30 Racing machine.
07:31 >> No change in the top ten there.
07:35 With the drone, you can see the gap.
07:37 Lawrence starting to draw away just a bit from Ferrandez.
07:40 Sexton closing on the second place rider.
07:42 >> It seems like when we get to this section where Dylan -- excuse me, J.T.
07:46 Was able to pass Dylan on this last lap.
07:48 He's able to stretch it out.
07:50 But once you get up in that tight section, I think more in the shadows where J.T.
07:53 Is just being really patient because it's easy to make mistakes.
07:56 Those guys close in on him.
07:58 >> It's really about J.T.
08:00 If he can get this thing out to three to four seconds, then again, as we see chase make a
08:04 mistake, it's going to be hard for him to ride.
08:07 And unlike other races, usually by now J.T.
08:09 Has a four or five second lead on these guys.
08:11 But they're still right there.
08:13 And that's the set up for this racetrack up here in Washington.
08:15 >> Yeah, we see a lot of close racing like this.
08:17 Remember, Ferrandez won this race in the 250 class.
08:20 He won one back in 2019.
08:22 But he had Adam C.
08:24 That year's champion all over him all day.
08:28 That's kind of how the racing goes here.
08:30 The motorsport.com whole shot replay.
08:32 >> Yeah, it looks like -- I mean, J.T., this is where he lines up on.
08:35 Dylan obviously got the whole shot.
08:37 But J.T. definitely took a chance.
08:39 And he was able to beat everybody on the outside.
08:41 And for him at this point, you got everybody on the outside of you beat.
08:44 But it was Dylan Ferrandez getting that whole shot just like his teammate in that 250 class.
08:48 Danger boy.
08:50 >> They're getting closer to jet than they have been all year this far in this race.
08:54 At least Dylan wise.
08:56 >> If you think it's weird seeing Ferrandez on this color of motorcycle, normally the Yamahas are blue.
09:00 But they are celebrating their 50th anniversary.
09:02 So they got the throwback look to the 1993 team.
09:05 That's what they say.
09:07 I feel like the '93 a little bit more orange on there.
09:09 The magenta purple combo, that's really just early '90s in general.
09:12 And all the Yamahas today are running that to kick off 50 years of the Yamaha YZ motocross line.
09:19 >> It's a different look for Ferrandez.
09:21 It's the same bike underneath.
09:23 And the pressure is now being applied by Chase Sexton.
09:25 >> Yeah, now you're seeing Chase Sexton try to close up.
09:29 And I remember 2013 I was battling with -- I was actually leading this race.
09:33 And I had Ryan Villapoto and I think Dungey at some point.
09:36 And Villapoto was faster than me.
09:38 But when he caught me, he kept making mistakes.
09:40 And that was because he caught me and every time he tried passing, he would get on the gas and spin out.
09:44 And O.J.S. was laughing because I'm like, oh, man, you should be faster.
09:48 But at the end of the day, as you're seeing, it's easy to make mistakes, Jason.
09:51 >> That was our monster energy team graphic.
09:53 And it's these two battling it out with Ferrandez and Sexton.
09:56 And then Anderson seen through the right behind him.
09:58 So you got four of those monster back riders in formation right now to the top of horsepower hill.
10:04 This is a critical junction for Sexton if he wants to put some pressure on Jet Lawrence.
10:08 He's going to have to make something happen and get to second quickly.
10:11 And you know Ferrandez is not going to make it easy on him.
10:14 >> Yeah, Dylan's definitely not going to roll over because just as much as Chase feels like he can win,
10:17 Dylan is a champion actually in this class.
10:20 So he's going to fight.
10:22 And I do believe Chase came in this race with more confidence.
10:25 But Dylan, I'm sure he's not happy on getting those third place finishes and where he has the last few races.
10:30 But also just what we saw with Chase Sexton last weekend, being able to see Jet Lawrence and be, you know,
10:35 ten minutes into the race and only be -- still be this close, it's given Dylan just as much confidence coming into this --
10:42 going into this race and as we continue going.
10:44 So maybe they both will close up on him and good route from Jason Anderson as well.
10:48 >> Yeah, he is definitely sticking with them.
10:50 And Anderson had a third place in our first moto last week.
10:53 So he is definitely finding his old form.
10:56 Anderson won two races in this series a year ago but missed the first half of this year coming back from a neck injury.
11:02 This is much more than Jason Anderson we expected to see all year long.
11:06 But the pressure is on Sexton right now.
11:09 He was so much better last week than he was at his first two races coming back from injury.
11:14 Can he find that form again today?
11:16 >> Yeah, well, we just saw Jet set the fastest lap the last -- well, the lap before.
11:21 And he was able to get that gap from Dylan.
11:23 I think what he was trying to do was keep them from being able to come up and maybe catch them off guard like Hunter Lawrence was.
11:30 But you see Chase making a few mistakes and it's been difficult for him to make that pass.
11:35 >> As J.T. Said at the top of the show, it was this race last year that was a big breakthrough for Sexton to turn the tide against Eli Tomac who is fighting for the championship in 2022.
11:45 And we asked him what he learned about that last year.
11:49 >> I would say not that I learned a whole bunch, but I had a good race here last year.
11:56 So we can kind of take that confidence and, yeah, use it for this year.
12:00 I definitely need it as far as just -- I've been in kind of a rut of second places.
12:04 So I need a break out of that.
12:06 And this track I tend to enjoy and it kind of brings me back to some of the tracks I grew up racing on.
12:11 So looking forward to that and have fun tomorrow.
12:14 >> This is not the fun he was hoping to have.
12:17 In fact, Ferrandez was able to get away.
12:19 I couldn't tell if Ferrandez put the hammer down or do we have some mistakes from Sexton.
12:22 But now Sexton is about two seconds behind Ferrandez.
12:25 >> Yeah, look at it, bro.
12:27 Chase made some mistakes and allowed Dylan.
12:30 But they were only about 3/10.
12:32 And Lawrence ran a 2.15.4, which is a second faster than Dylan on this last lap.
12:36 So as he's getting confidence, and again, you can see when Chase gets close to him, he tries to make the pass and make a mistake.
12:42 And he's just going to have to calm down.
12:44 The hard part for him is that he's watching his teammate run a second faster and he knows that it's going to be difficult to catch him.
12:50 >> Yeah, he's down nearly six seconds to the leader right now, the winner of this race in the 450 class the last two years.
12:55 And Jason Anderson is hanging.
12:58 >> Good route by Jason.
13:00 >> Crazy to see.
13:02 Two weeks ago we were watching them struggle just to finish the moto.
13:04 And that's what I love about Jason Anderson.
13:06 The guy always fights.
13:08 He's el hombre.
13:10 I'm glad to see him back.
13:12 And he comes back last weekend, get a third to first moto.
13:14 And now he's up here running the pace of these leaders.
13:16 I don't think he's been this close to him since he was at the routers meeting.
13:18 So it's good to see him out here.
13:20 And he's getting more confidence as he's a champion as well.
13:23 >> Yeah, and remember, we will have playoffs coming up.
13:26 Four races to go before that.
13:28 And it's a season that's a little bit disappointing.
13:30 And certainly Anderson, he's a title level guy.
13:32 So it has not been the year he wanted.
13:34 But, man, you come out with the super moto cross title and big money at the end of the year.
13:38 The 450 championship there pays a million bucks.
13:41 Well, suddenly you can right a lot of wrongs.
13:43 And that's what Sexton's trying to do.
13:45 He is close back on for Anderson.
13:47 Pulled back away from Anderson.
13:49 And now we have seen Cirillo and Masterpole still battling.
13:51 Fifth, sixth.
13:53 And then seventh is the 7 of Plessinger.
13:55 >> AP, you're going to lose that car, baby.
13:57 You're going to lose that car.
13:59 But, yeah, AP is another one of those guys that it's been a so-so year for him.
14:03 I'm sure he expected to be able to come in here and win in some races.
14:06 But now, as you can see, I think the track's drying out now.
14:10 Jet Lawrence feels like it's a great opportunity.
14:13 If he can get more of a gap that five, six seconds, then this second half of this race is going to be a lot easier.
14:19 So he ran a 2.15 and then backed it up with another 2.15.
14:22 And the other guys are in 2.16, 17.
14:24 So Jet understands where he's at, and he's trying to end this race right now.
14:28 As we watch Tom Masterpole, going to go try to steal that car from AC in a minute.
14:33 >> Yeah, you've been talking about it.
14:34 The factory car with the privateer kid out of Texas.
14:38 We're back to this battle.
14:40 Now Sexton's putting the hammer down.
14:41 He's right there with Ferrandez.
14:43 >> Yeah, Chase is going to have to get in on Dylan.
14:45 Just what we saw with Jet, it doesn't do no good just to catch the guy.
14:49 Because once you catch up in these sections, then you have to funnel back.
14:52 I think what he needs to do is either just stay up on him and keep him close and then try to sneak up on him.
14:58 What Jet did or Hunter did in that 4.15.
15:00 >> From the outside to the inside, Sexton makes it happen.
15:04 >> Is the radio working in there?
15:06 Like what's going on?
15:07 He was tired of this.
15:08 So, yeah, good pass by Chase.
15:10 He was going around the outside.
15:11 Dylan knew it.
15:12 So they're going to have to work together.
15:13 Dylan said go for it.
15:14 You can catch him.
15:15 I can't do it today.
15:16 >> 5.9 seconds, though, is the distance between Lawrence and Sexton.
15:20 Now, Sexton did make up that much time last week.
15:23 But that was because Sexton was down early.
15:25 Here, Sexton was close early.
15:27 And Jet pulled away.
15:28 So is Sexton going to find that much more speed in the second half of this moto?
15:33 Will Lawrence's undefeated streak continue?
15:36 We're exactly halfway through.
15:37 So we're going to find out.
15:39 And the fans starting to respond.
15:40 It's the battle they wanted to see.
15:42 >> Yeah, great pass by Chase.
15:43 And that's going to give a lot of confidence for him moving forward as we're within 15
15:48 minutes left.
15:49 >> You know what that means.
15:50 >> Yeah, we need some insurance to catch him, Jeff.
15:53 >> All right.
15:54 Yeah, yeah.
15:55 So it's 15 minutes left in the race.
15:56 And a 15-minute phone call to Geico, you can save 15% or more on your motorcycle insurance.
16:01 But stay with us here.
16:02 These next couple of laps are going to be very critical.
16:05 It's now up to 6.5 seconds between Lawrence and Sexton.
16:10 And Anderson had his season best with that third last week.
16:14 He might want it again.
16:15 He's stalking Ferrandez.
16:16 A couple of different battles to watch.
16:18 >> Yeah, we know Jason.
16:19 He's one of those guys that if you allow him to be there, he's going to finish you off.
16:23 And I think him staying close, if he sees Dylan, one, you ain't going to want to get
16:27 roosted.
16:28 So Jason's doing a great job.
16:29 Now, if we watch Chase, that time he's lost at six seconds, it's not the fact that he
16:34 can't go faster and catch Jet.
16:36 The problem is, is like how long can you do that?
16:38 And we've seen a lot of mistakes here at everybody.
16:41 Not just Chase.
16:42 We've seen mistakes from Jet.
16:44 And even in the 250 class.
16:45 When you start trying to pick that pace up, you might get it and you might close up one
16:49 second one lap and maybe get it the next lap.
16:51 But the likelihood of doing that consistency to be able to catch him, it's going to be
16:55 difficult.
16:56 And that's what Jet was able to do.
16:58 And now he's putting Chase in that spot.
17:00 So we'll figure it out.
17:02 >> Winding our way up and down the hills here of Washoe.
17:06 I like watching the Tour de France up and down the hills there.
17:10 Riders of pro motocross, they love watching this.
17:12 You see it on every morning when we get to the track.
17:14 The three-week journey through France comes to a conclusion tomorrow in downtown Paris.
17:19 You have to see it at least once in your life.
17:22 It's unbelievable when you see them coming downtown.
17:24 Catch the final stage of the Tour at 10 a.m. Eastern tomorrow.
17:28 And on Peacock from the Tour de France.
17:31 And we're watching Anderson with Miranda.
17:33 It's not too far up ahead.
17:35 >> Yeah, Dylan's doing a great job of keeping Chase honest.
17:38 And also with Jason.
17:39 I think Jason's pushing Dylan to keep his pace up, which is keeping him up to chase
17:44 X.
17:45 And again, there's not a lot of separation from these guys.
17:47 It's just about whether they can get the lines and depending on what part of the section.
17:52 But unlike the 250 class, the lappers are a lot better, as you can see.
17:55 We haven't even really ran into any of them.
17:57 And we're almost, what, 12 minutes left compared to the 250 class.
18:00 So I don't think that's going to be an issue with these guys.
18:02 Usually they're pretty respected.
18:04 And this is the best class in the world.
18:06 So it's just going to be about executing and keeping us moving through these sections right here.
18:11 >> I want to give a shout out.
18:12 You see 10th place is Colton Nichols.
18:14 What a run.
18:15 Has not raced any motocross this year.
18:17 Borrowed a bike and puts it in 10th place.
18:19 He's trying to get points to stay within the top 20 for the playoff push.
18:24 Riders rank top 10 in combined motocross and supercross points.
18:27 We're going to have playoffs this year.
18:29 >> He's automatically into the motos, battle box.
18:33 Jet lures.
18:34 And the lead up to 7.7.
18:36 So he's just marching away.
18:37 >> Yeah, it's hard to tell.
18:38 We can't even tell because it looks like he might be a lapper to how smooth he is.
18:41 Doesn't look like he's trying.
18:43 But now, jet, you can tell the last few laps he's been finding the flow.
18:46 He's been in that consistently of 215, which is a second faster, again, than chase Sexton.
18:52 So he's doing exactly what he needs to do.
18:54 And that gap he's pulling out, again, is making this race easier.
18:58 Now, chase has to ride hard.
19:00 And we heard from jet in the practice, he says, I went slower to go faster.
19:03 And I think that's what we're kind of seeing.
19:05 And he's going faster than these guys right now.
19:07 >> Oh, yeah, no doubt.
19:08 Ten seconds up on Ferrandez.
19:10 Then you got Anderson here in fourth.
19:12 Still digging.
19:14 And seen Strullo battling master pool.
19:16 And Plessinger, Noren, Marchbanks, and Nichols.
19:19 11 minutes and two laps to go.
19:20 Go ahead.
19:21 >> You saw Jason ducking his head going up that hill.
19:23 That was from that roost.
19:25 And I can't stress to you enough how bad that stuff hurts.
19:28 So, yeah, Jason's going to want to get past him just from that point, not being roosted.
19:33 >> Great ride here from Anderson.
19:35 You tell somebody that Ferrandez is going to hole shot and Anderson is going to be able to catch him and maybe take the podium away.
19:40 That would be impressive.
19:42 Ferrandez has finished on the podium in 11 of the 14 motos this year.
19:46 This would be rare.
19:47 We go back to this battle.
19:49 The always determined Ty master pool, keeping Adam Seen, Strullo on his fifth and sixth.
19:54 >> Yeah, what is consistent is Ty master pool doing what he does, beating these guys and fighting them.
20:00 So I've been proud of this kid.
20:02 I love what I'm seeing.
20:03 I just like the heart and determination.
20:05 You can tell he has a point to prove whether he's trying to do that.
20:08 But he rides with a passion.
20:10 And I think it brings the best out of Adam and AP.
20:14 Otherwise maybe these guys would just be riding around.
20:16 But because of Ty, they've got to go back to the pits and answer those questions that they don't want.
20:22 >> Yes, master pool, HBI racing is a new team out here.
20:25 They picked up Ty for the third race of the year.
20:27 But that was because Ty was getting into the races in the family motor home and had a front tire blowout and it completely destroyed the front of the RV.
20:34 So HBI said, hey, we'll take your bike to the next race.
20:37 And now I think they're working on a fundraiser, trying to put some budget together to get him a race engine.
20:42 His engine is stock except for a pipe.
20:44 And he's got good suspension on the bike and that's about it.
20:47 But really it's the hard work at home down in Texas.
20:50 >> He told me the other day he's riding at 114 degrees.
20:53 Uh-oh, he's feeling some other heat right now because Plessenger is closing.
20:57 >> Aaron Plessenger is out there.
21:00 AP, again, as he makes a mistake going to that corner, eventually if you're going to stay this close to him, you've got to fight the guy.
21:07 You've got to try to pass him because it makes no sense just to be there and get roosted the whole time.
21:11 So AP is trying.
21:12 Just a difficult track to pass on.
21:14 But I also feel like if Ty, if he's riding stock bike, it actually might help him on this racetrack because it will be smoother.
21:21 He doesn't have to worry about spinning it up.
21:23 But either way, riding the heat of Texas or stock bike, whatever it is, it's working.
21:27 And Ty's doing a great job at holding AP and keeping Adam Cincerella around honest.
21:33 >> Oh, yeah.
21:34 And the work they do there at his 956 facility that's named after Masterful's brother, his biomechanics is what his dad said.
21:44 His dad is an Olympic level coach with the alpine racing.
21:46 So it's a lot of video analysis, computer analysis.
21:49 It's not just do more miles on the bicycle or lift more weight in the gym.
21:53 It's very scientific.
21:55 You know Ty's mom, former world champ, and she casually told me last week, yeah, I got about 30 national championships as a snowboarder.
22:01 So he gets it honest, as they say.
22:03 There's athletic talent throughout the Masterful family, and he is giving these factory riders fits.
22:08 >> Yeah, it's hard when you can't even talk back to mom.
22:10 She'll be like, how many championships you got?
22:12 I got 30 of them.
22:14 You can't talk back to her.
22:16 So whatever it is, just, you know, the struggles.
22:19 I mean, I think Ty's in this position because he's had some accidents.
22:22 You know, he's been out and crashed and some injuries.
22:24 So you just got to be proud of anyone that gets knocked down, comes back, gets knocked down again.
22:30 So if you're not a fan of that, then, you know, I think that's tough.
22:34 So I like Ty just because I love seeing kids fight and come back up.
22:38 And again, can't talk back to mom.
22:40 She's got you covered by 30.
22:43 >> I mean, even you couldn't talk back on that.
22:45 30 titles is a lot.
22:46 >> We're talking about Ty.
22:47 We ain't talking about me.
22:48 >> Okay, yeah, we're good.
22:49 Okay, yeah.
22:50 Jay, Jay, you're off the hook.
22:51 The last leg streak at least you're good.
22:53 But Jet Lawrence is looking to continue this stretch to 15 and 0.
22:57 It's down to 5.4 seconds.
22:59 He was almost 8.
23:00 But as you can see, he's in the midst of lap traffic.
23:03 >> Yeah, a lot of that is probably where he caught those lappers.
23:06 And at some point, chase is going to have to go and pass those guys too.
23:10 But again, if chase catches those guys by going up horsepower hill, then they're not a factor.
23:15 But still, he's doing a good job.
23:17 And we'll see if chase is actually doing that, was it the lappers or what's going on this next lap if a jet can pull away.
23:24 But still, great ride by both these guys.
23:26 >> They're keeping chase still right there.
23:28 And they're within ten seconds of almost six minutes left in this race.
23:32 You can't say a lot of that all year long.
23:34 The top four within ten seconds of Jet Lawrence.
23:36 That's a win right there.
23:37 >> Yeah, you're right.
23:38 And I don't know, what do you think?
23:40 How much of that is that Washougal track where you're saying it tends to keep people close?
23:43 Because we're seeing 45-second gaps.
23:45 >> Yeah, it is.
23:46 It's a lot of Washougal.
23:48 I mean, outside of -- and the way this track is set up this year, I don't know why, but it seems like a lot of these guys are funneling into the same line.
23:55 Where I feel like years past, they would be able to go outside there, which would allow them to be on the inside.
24:00 So whether just the track conditions are being a little bit drier, just the way the lines form, they seem like they're really close this year.
24:06 And no matter how much faster you are in practice, when they start racing, the guys can just kind of get a pace.
24:11 And it is a lot because of the soil and just the way this track is set up with the lines and everything.
24:17 >> Anderson is right there on Ferrandez looking for that third-place spot.
24:20 This is vintage El Hombre, Jason Anderson putting on a big charge.
24:25 I'll tell you what, I mean, Ferrandez being the 2021 champ of this series, I don't think I've seen Anderson run him down very often.
24:32 So this is a really good ride for the 21.
24:34 >> Yeah, I mean, Jason is a supercross champion, so he knows how to do it.
24:38 He won 70 of these races, the supercrosses last year.
24:41 So Jason's one of those guys, as we saw with Dylan, if you can keep Jet close to just the confidence with Chase, Jason's good enough.
24:49 Once he sees you, he'll latch on to that pace and maybe Dylan's starting to ride behind him where Jason's trying to get around.
24:57 But if you notice the Kawasaki, those guys, just like Honda, there's a lot of traction in Jason's bike.
25:02 He's doing a really good job, even in supercrosses.
25:05 He's on some of the slipperier tracks with his best performances.
25:08 So you see him coming up in these sections, he has a lot of traction.
25:11 That's allowing him to close up to Dylan and keep it well.
25:15 So great job by team Monster Energy Kawasaki and Jason for having a good combo to allow him to ride with this champion right here.
25:22 >> We were theorizing on our race day live show presented by motorsport, which is qualifying coverage this morning.
25:27 Anderson from New Mexico, that's hard pack, dry, slick terrain.
25:31 Think that might help him on a track like this.
25:33 >> Well, yeah, I mean, just like Deegan, it helps if you know how to ride sand or you know how to ride hard pack.
25:38 But the fact is, what I'm talking about is just strictly the way that motorcycle holds the traction.
25:43 If you look at it, it looks really planted compared to Dylan.
25:46 And I think it's allowing Jason, you don't see him losing the rear tire.
25:51 So Dylan's a great hard pack rider, too.
25:54 But just the setup of the motorcycle, the way they got it set up, you can see a lot of traction right there.
26:00 He's doing a really good job.
26:01 Looks great.
26:02 >> Hey, this is cool.
26:03 We got a race within a race today.
26:05 The two strokes, the old school bikes, the 252 strokes, which are still eligible to race in this 450 class.
26:11 They're not as fast, so most people don't pick them.
26:13 But there's some incentive today because there's $15,000 on the line.
26:17 So let's update you.
26:18 This is Carson Brown you're watching.
26:20 He is the top placing two stroke right now in 15th.
26:24 Hamish Harwood from New Zealand is running 20th.
26:27 A-rod Anthony Rodriguez out of Venezuela is 22nd.
26:30 Jeremy Han, 23rd.
26:31 Rod Bell, first race of the year for him coming back from a torn Achilles, 32nd.
26:36 Stank dog is Jared Steinke and Brandon Ray.
26:39 Those are the two strokes.
26:41 Carson Brown getting it done.
26:43 >> You see stank dog back there.
26:45 If you notice, as I was saying, you get in that shadow, there's no dust coming out of that section.
26:49 But if you look at the rest of the racetrack, the reason they put a lot of water is because this track is dry now.
26:53 So just pay attention to that.
26:55 Even for the second moto, this track is going to be night and day difference than they have written all day.
26:59 But that section in those shadows is going to be the same.
27:02 So just cool to watch you go.
27:05 And that's what makes this track very difficult.
27:07 You can ride on different parts of the track and it's a completely different set up of soil conditions than the other side.
27:14 >> Looks like Ferrandez able to shed the pressure from Anderson for the moment.
27:18 It is 2.5 seconds between them now.
27:21 And Anderson was right there.
27:23 I can look at their last lap time and it was a 2.9 for Ferrandez and a 2.1.
27:30 But let's see what the lap time is between them now.
27:33 So it was very close the previous lap.
27:35 Let's see the difference this time.
27:37 >> Yeah, if you notice -- >> Ferrandez went back to the 2.19.
27:39 So Anderson's pace about the same and Ferrandez stepped up.
27:42 >> Yeah, maybe he got caught up behind a lap rider or whatnot.
27:45 Because it seems like Jason's still right there and he's trying to come back.
27:49 But it was interesting to watch him going to that whoop section.
27:51 If you look at Jason, Dylan's bike, he lost a rear end going out of that corner into those whoops.
27:56 And you see Jason behind him.
27:58 And that's where I was saying with the traction.
28:00 It was a lap rider or Dylan is stepping it up, but it looks a lot easier for Jason to be behind Dylan.
28:07 For him, it looks like he has more traction.
28:09 But Dylan's doing what he does, and I don't think he wants to let go of that podium.
28:13 >> No doubt about it.
28:15 Anderson fourth, Cicero fifth.
28:17 Masterful still holding off Plesinger.
28:19 Norrin, Marks, Banks and Nichols still rounding out the top ten.
28:22 And up front, no real change.
28:24 It's fluctuated between six to about 7.5 seconds.
28:28 Probably just because they're negotiating lap traffic.
28:30 Sexton still second.
28:32 There's Josh Hill.
28:33 >> I was going to say, Josh Hill, what's up?
28:35 Another local boy.
28:36 >> Yeah, hasn't raced here at Washoegal since 2012.
28:39 But it's a local race for him.
28:41 Decided to come out and race it.
28:43 Might have been thinking playoff points when I talked to him yesterday.
28:46 He said as far as that's concerned, he would need a lot.
28:48 And he doesn't know if Washoegal, just the one race, is going to show up as enough to really help.
28:53 And right now he is in 26th.
28:55 They only pay points for top 20.
28:57 >> I'm going to tell you, Josh, I'm not going to lie.
28:59 I'm going to tell you, I'm not going to lie.
29:01 I'm not going to lie.
29:03 I'm going to tell you, I'm not going to lie.
29:05 I'm going to tell you, I'm not going to lie.
29:07 I'm going to tell you, I'm not going to lie.
29:09 I'm going to tell you, I'm not going to lie.
29:11 I'm going to tell you, I'm not going to lie.
29:13 I'm going to tell you, I'm not going to lie.
29:15 I'm going to tell you, I'm not going to lie.
29:17 I'm going to tell you, I'm not going to lie.
29:19 I'm going to tell you, I'm not going to lie.
29:21 I'm going to tell you, I'm not going to lie.
29:23 I'm going to tell you, I'm not going to lie.
29:25 >> They have successfully pulled back away from Plessinger.
29:27 Plessinger, we go back to rounds one and two.
29:29 He was giving Ferrandez fits.
29:31 Thought he might have been the second best rider in the
29:33 series.
29:35 Maybe he could get close to Jett.
29:37 Had a back injury and a lull for a while.
29:39 Now he's relatively healed up and still back there in
29:41 seventh.
29:43 You can still see the leader down there on the lower right.
29:45 Jett Lawrence.
29:47 Gap is down to 5.8.
29:49 >> Now Jett is just managing to get back up.
29:51 >> He's got a lot of momentum.
29:53 >> Now Jett is just managing that.
29:55 I believe it is -- for Aaron, the way he started off the
29:59 season, he was strong.
30:01 I felt like at one point he was the guy that was like, okay,
30:05 he's somewhat keeping Jett honest at hang town.
30:07 But then Ty Mastenpool happened.
30:09 And then the Thunder Valley.
30:11 And then of course when you hurt your back, I'm not mowing
30:13 the lawn.
30:15 I might not mow the lawn for a couple of weeks.
30:17 That was a struggle for him.
30:19 It's weird to hear all the bike issues they've been having
30:21 compared to the way he started off the season.
30:23 You wouldn't think you would turn around and go backwards.
30:25 If you had bike issues, it would be that way in the beginning
30:27 part.
30:29 A lot of things.
30:31 But yeah, it's just confidence.
30:33 I do believe Adam Cincerello is getting better.
30:35 Ty Mastenpool is getting better.
30:37 Dillon and AP is starting to go the other way, which is why he's
30:39 losing that time.
30:41 So yeah, tough position.
30:43 Not really sure exactly what the real issue is.
30:45 But I know this ain't the AP we expected and definitely not the
30:47 guy we started the season off with.
30:49 >> You're right.
30:51 These other guys have stepped up.
30:53 We didn't even have Anderson earlier in the year.
30:55 We knew Ferrandez would improve because he was coming into the
30:57 series with very little prep.
30:59 And he definitely has.
31:01 Running in third right now.
31:03 There's Chas Hill again.
31:05 We have seen Cincerello coming by next.
31:07 Sexton is back to seven seconds behind Jett Lawrence.
31:09 So the battle we expected did not materialize in this moto.
31:11 Jett Lawrence could win a moto for the first time ever at
31:15 Washougal.
31:17 He's actually raced this track twice.
31:19 He won the overall here last year without a moto win.
31:21 But on a 450, there's basically nothing he can't do.
31:23 >> Yeah, there's nothing he can't do.
31:25 He executed this thing.
31:27 Dillon led a lap.
31:29 The keys to the moto.
31:31 I said lead a lap.
31:33 It still doesn't matter.
31:35 They're improving.
31:37 They're within 40 seconds.
31:39 So there's an improvement.
31:41 But ultimately I just think what Jeff, once he got around Dillon,
31:43 those next few laps, as we saw, he dropped down to his 215th.
31:45 He ran those for a few laps.
31:47 He got that gap, as I said.
31:49 And now he just manages.
31:51 There's nothing chase can do.
31:53 Chase could be faster.
31:55 But the likelihood of trying to run that pace that long is
31:57 going to be difficult.
31:59 And now we're watching Dillon and I believe Jason Edmondson
32:01 catching him again here.
32:03 >> You know, the keys to the moto might just be lead the first
32:05 lap and then lead all of the laps.
32:07 That might have to be the key.
32:09 Because Brandis did the first lap.
32:11 He did lead that.
32:13 >> They're listening.
32:15 Even the 250 class.
32:17 I don't have a key.
32:19 You have to beat them.
32:21 They did it.
32:23 I'll change it up for you guys in the second moto.
32:25 >> Brandis almost lost the back end coming out of that corner.
32:27 He gets it back under control.
32:29 But here comes Anderson.
32:31 He's back again in the fight for third.
32:33 >> Yeah, I don't know.
32:35 It didn't look like they caught up to Lapras.
32:37 I think Jason is running really good.
32:39 You wasn't sure since he's been gone so long that Dillon
32:41 probably should have more condition than Jason since he's
32:43 been out.
32:45 He's been racing all year long.
32:47 Jason is just getting back into his thing.
32:49 But Alhambra has something different.
32:51 And if he catches him, he's going to pass him for sure.
32:53 >> But he's got to deal with the lap traffic.
32:55 Here are two strokes everywhere out here.
32:57 I think they might be into that group.
32:59 You see the big exhaust pipe on the 91.
33:01 Jeremy Hand on one of those old school two strokes.
33:03 That's the engine that ruled the roost in motocross.
33:05 Really good job of that.
33:07 >> The engine that ruled the roost in motocross
33:09 really from the '70s through the early 2000s.
33:11 But the four stroke technology, which a lot of it came from
33:13 the road racing world, and car engines are four strokes as
33:15 well.
33:17 So there's just so much development.
33:19 The rules allow you to have a bigger engine on a four stroke.
33:21 And for a while that wasn't enough.
33:23 The displacement wasn't enough to overcome the two stroke.
33:25 But the bikes got better and better and lighter.
33:27 And now they're no doubt the best bike out there.
33:29 You were around when that transition happened.
33:31 It was a rough transition.
33:33 >> It was a rough.
33:35 It was a rough time.
33:37 I feel like the four stroke has always been better since the
33:39 beginning.
33:41 It was definitely a lot heavier.
33:43 It was just -- there was a lot fewer, you know, fewer.
33:45 I remember Doug Henry winning back in '97 in Vegas.
33:47 It was a big difference.
33:49 And Kevin Windham even here.
33:51 So the four strokes definitely got a lot better.
33:53 That's why they say there's a battle within the battle.
33:55 Because really if you're riding a two stroke in this class,
33:57 you're doing it for a different reason besides going out there
33:59 and trying to have your best finish.
34:01 But it does make a difference.
34:03 It sure sounds good.
34:05 I'll tell you that.
34:07 >> It does.
34:09 >> It was really late '90s when Yamaha came out with the 400
34:11 four stroke and that really changed the game.
34:13 You told somebody in the '80s that would happen.
34:15 They'd be like, there's no way it could be done.
34:17 They've come a long way.
34:19 Jet Lawrence has come a long way as well.
34:21 To think about going back five years ago, not even on the radar
34:23 for people in the United States.
34:25 The young Australian, I think the first person on the radar was
34:27 his brother Hunter who's a little bit older.
34:29 And had already made some waves.
34:31 The white flag comes out in the MXGP series.
34:33 And Jet was coming along for the ride.
34:35 And the Lawrence family has said it.
34:37 A lot of the things that Hunter learned, Jet was able to learn
34:39 from him, learn them more quickly because his brother was already
34:41 there.
34:43 And it has turned into an unbelievable story.
34:45 You tell anyone that a 19-year-old might be the best in
34:47 the world in a given sport.
34:49 That is unreal.
34:51 But that's the reality we're looking at right now.

34:55 I think he is.

34:59 >> We're talking about the four stroke.
35:01 And say, hey, in 1990, you would say the four stroke will become
35:03 this far.
35:05 Two months ago, we would say Jet Lawrence would be on verge of
35:07 he can go perfect.
35:09 >> Perfect?
35:11 No, we're not talking about perfection.
35:13 >> We're watching elevation and things evolve quickly.

35:35 But it looks -- it looks Jefferless.
35:37 That's what I'm going to start calling.
35:39 This is Jefferless.
35:41 So when he rides, that's his new style.

36:03 supercross title slip away with a race and a half to go.

36:19 This kid is on another level.

36:34 >> Yep.
36:36 >> It was not another moto win.
