Transcript
00:00 Are you looking forward to the new Barbie movie?
00:02 Absolutely, it's going to be a very nostalgic feeling because Barbie's a part of, for as
00:06 long as I've been alive anyway, Barbie's been a massive ongoing house brand.
00:11 It's a global thing.
00:12 When you see the Barbie logo, no matter where you're from, you know exactly what it means
00:17 to you.
00:18 Whether that means it brings back childhood memories, gives you a sense of warmth or I
00:22 don't know, but it's just a nice global brand.
00:26 Do you think it's as much for men as women?
00:31 I think obviously once upon a time it was all aimed at women, young girls, little girls,
00:35 but I think as time's moved on and things have progressed even more, Barbie's becoming
00:39 like a symbol of change, a symbol of women that are empowered and people not being afraid
00:45 to be like, "Yeah, I like Barbie, I'm a boy, I'm a girl."
00:47 It's being open to anyone, anyone can access it, which the underlying meaning behind Barbie
00:52 now is a totally different power statement, in my opinion, to what it used to be.
00:59 So what are you looking forward to about the film?
01:01 I think it's going to showcase, so all the things, if you think of Barbie 30 years ago,
01:06 it was associated with a lot of negative words like blonde, bimbo, girl, fantasy, but whereas
01:12 now they've flipped it on its head and it's going to showcase words like strong, powerful,
01:18 like be Barbie, like Barbie to me means be a warrior, be the best version of yourself
01:23 you can be in a world that's different and moving forward.
01:28 Do you think Barbie's a positive role model for young people growing up today?
01:33 Right now and with the way that the film is being portrayed in the trailers and the talk
01:37 about it, I think right now it's going to be shown in such a positive way to everyone.
01:42 I mean, back in the day I could see how the way it was marketed and things like that,
01:47 how it could be a negative impact on people, like body image, but yeah, I think they've
01:51 really refined it and now they're using it as a tool to help people and spur them on.
01:58 Do you have a favourite Barbie?
02:00 Mine was always the gymnastic Barbie, like I like the outfits and the actual doll itself,
02:05 so it's the flexibility, you know, you used to play with dolls, so the gymnastic Barbie
02:10 was my favourite at the time.
02:12 Are you looking forward to the new Barbie movie?
02:14 Yeah, definitely, I can't wait to see it.
02:18 So are you going with friends?
02:20 Yeah, definitely going with friends, yeah, see how it is.
02:24 All the promo for it I've been seeing looks amazing, so Margot Robbie looks incredible.
02:32 What are you expecting from the film?
02:34 I think it's more about like, it's not really just for kids anymore, I think it's more like
02:39 showing a stereotype of Barbie and how Barbie can actually do everything, so yeah, I think
02:45 it's really good for people of all ages to watch it.
02:50 And how does it make you feel when you see Barbie?
02:52 Oh, it brings back loads of memories, like I loved Barbie as a kid, I love everything
02:56 pink, so yeah, I can't wait to see it.
03:00 Looking forward to the new Barbie movie?
03:02 I can't wait for the new Barbie movie, I can't wait to get there and get my pick and mix
03:06 and get my lovely big huge seat.
03:09 Who are you going with?
03:11 I don't know yet.
03:15 And do you have a favourite Barbie?
03:18 The richest one, my richest Barbie ever, the one with the most money.
03:24 What are you hoping for from the film?
03:26 I'm hoping for excitement, I'm hoping for them characters coming to life and being all
03:33 big and strong, a bit like me really.
03:38 Do you think Barbie's like a feminist icon?
03:41 Oh, what a question!
03:43 In this day and age.
03:46 Is she a feminist icon?
03:50 Possibly.
03:51 In certain parts of the world that would be associated with a feminist icon, but I don't
03:55 personally think it is.
03:57 Do you think it's just like a good bit of fun?
04:00 You know, we sometimes forget when we were kids, the older generation of kids, that wasn't
04:04 even a word, so it was just a doll and it was a big thing to get a Barbie doll for Christmas.
04:10 And now it's all changed.
04:11 The world's gone Barbie mad!
