00:00 You can have a look and think, well, what's coming out of their other end?
00:02 The commonly asked question is with the little babies is,
00:09 are they getting enough milk and are they growing OK?
00:12 You will be aware that you have your child health read book,
00:15 and within that, you'll have your child growth charts.
00:17 They are standardised charts from the World Health Organisation,
00:20 which can plot your baby's height, weight and head circumference.
00:23 But there are many, many other ways to assess whether your baby is growing properly.
00:27 So if you have a baby that's in nappies,
00:30 then you can have a look and think, well, what's coming out of their other end?
00:32 If there's lots of wee, lots of poo, then you know your baby is feeding really, really well.
00:36 We look for about eight heavy wet nappies a day.
00:39 Visual clues are really, really powerful.
00:41 Is the baby grow getting tighter?
00:43 Do you think the Moses basket is getting a bit too small?
00:45 One that you can rely on is, does your baby feel heavier?
00:47 All good signs that they're growing and developing.
00:50 You can weigh your baby on scales, but that's not always necessary
00:54 because you can use your judgment through many other ways to see if they're thriving well.
00:58 You can access the baby scales through health visitors or GP surgeries.
01:02 Lots of areas now do self-weigh stations,
01:05 so you could have a look at your local directory
01:06 and see if there's any facilities available for you to access those services,
01:10 just to put your mind at rest.
