Famous events took place at Cal's track & field and soccer venue
Transcript
00:00 The movie Oppenheimer has been getting a lot of publicity.
00:04 That one and the other movie, Barbie, are getting a lot of publicity.
00:08 And part of the Oppenheimer movie was shot at Cal's famed Edwards Stadium.
00:14 Now, I assume that Edwards Stadium will be in the film.
00:18 It's in the trailer.
00:20 There are times when things that appear in the trailer don't actually appear in the movie
00:25 and get left on the cutting room floor.
00:28 But seldom that happens.
00:30 I'm assuming since it's in the trailer that it's going to be there.
00:33 It might be just like a two-second, three-second blurb of Oppenheimer
00:39 and a couple of his buddies walking across the field at Edwards Stadium
00:44 to presumably to do their work.
00:46 I don't think they're walking across the stadium to run a 400-meter hurdles race
00:52 or something like that.
00:54 They're not ready to get in there and start playing a soccer match either.
00:58 But there's been a lot of historic stuff at Edwards Stadium.
01:02 As noted in the story, the Jim Ryan's mile record was set there.
01:07 That was when it was a cinder track at Edwards Stadium.
01:11 He beat the record of Michael Jaycee, and he beat it by--
01:14 I can't remember how much, but it was more than a second.
01:17 And it was an amazing time.
01:19 He was only 19 years old.
01:21 Ryan never did win a gold medal in the Olympics,
01:24 but he was considered the best miler in the world for a while there.
