00:08 Hybrid animals are a result of a crossing from two
00:11 animals of different species.
00:13 These such crossings results in animals
00:15 whose appearance presents mixed characteristics.
00:17 And trust us, they're beautiful.
00:19 Some of these animal hybrids are so incredibly fascinating
00:22 that it's hard to believe that they're even real.
00:24 Additionally, not all species are
00:26 able to mate with each other.
00:28 So when this does happen, it is incredibly rare.
00:31 In this video, we've listed 10 of the most interesting hybrid
00:34 animals on this planet.
00:37 Number 10, koi dog.
00:40 The most popular as a breed, which
00:41 is the Sulamov dog, a hybrid between a jackal and a dog,
00:45 originated in the USSR.
00:47 They have characteristics in common to jackals and huskies
00:50 with a large body, almond-shaped eyes with piercing looks.
00:53 With an acutely sensitive olfaction,
00:55 this lesser-known dog is said to be the best sniffer
00:58 dog in the world.
00:59 Created as a 3/4 dog and 1/4 jackal,
01:02 it's a very new breed that has mainly
01:04 been used for airport security purposes,
01:06 primarily to sniff explosives and other contraband materials.
01:10 Number 9, narluga.
01:13 The narluga is a narwhal-beluga whale hybrid
01:16 who are both from the monodontidae family.
01:18 This incredibly unusual marine animal crossing,
01:21 when discovered, was considered a likelihood,
01:24 mainly due to the fact that narwhals and belugas
01:26 are considered the most closely related of any other species.
01:29 Narlugas can only be seen in Arctic waters.
01:32 And although today they've grown in population
01:34 as a result of a crossing motivated by global warming,
01:37 records of the first sighting were made in 1980.
01:41 Number 8, zedonk.
01:44 Zedonks, also known as zedonks, are a hybrid
01:46 of a zebra and a donkey.
01:48 This cross was, and still is, possible due to the fact
01:51 that both zebras and donkeys come from the equidae family.
01:55 This animal crossing generally occurs naturally
01:57 in the African savanna, where both species live together.
02:00 Zedonks carry a bone structure similar to that of zebras,
02:03 except they have gray fur below their striped legs.
02:07 Number 7, beefalo.
02:10 The beefalo, also known as a catalo,
02:13 is a hybrid of both a domestic cow and American bison.
02:16 The beefalo resembles that of a corpulent bull
02:18 with dense fur.
02:20 This crossing was originally practiced by farmers
02:22 in the 1970s, since meat produced from beefalos
02:25 contained less fat than that from cattle.
02:27 In addition, beefalos are considered a hardier breed,
02:30 specifically when it comes to fighting off disease.
02:33 Number 6, zorse.
02:36 Have you ever heard of a zorse, a hybrid of a zebra and horse?
02:40 Zebras are able to mate with any member of the equine family,
02:42 not only donkeys.
02:44 A zorse hybrid is possible when mating includes a male zebra
02:47 and a mare, a female horse.
02:48 The zorse is smaller than a horse,
02:50 with a short and rigid mane.
02:52 The typical zebra stripes are also usually present
02:54 on its brown fur.
02:55 The zorse is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful
02:58 hybrid specimens on Earth.
03:01 Number 5, wolfen.
03:04 Another extremely rare hybrid is the wolfen,
03:06 a crossbreed of a common bottlenose dolphin that's
03:09 female and a false killer whale that's male.
03:11 Generally, the term "wolfen" describes any hybrid
03:14 of a dolphin and whale, and its appearance
03:16 will vary depending on the species.
03:18 A wolfen's size and dentures are two characteristics
03:21 that help differentiate it from its parents.
03:23 Wolfens are generally smaller in size,
03:25 with fewer teeth than its predecessors.
03:28 Number 4, hennie.
03:31 Did you know that a hennie is a result of a cross
03:33 in between a male horse and a female donkey?
03:35 Due to the fact that both of these species,
03:37 part of the equine family, don't live in the same habitat,
03:40 their breeding requires human intervention.
03:42 Hennies were, therefore, one of the few hybrid animal
03:45 species completely created by man.
03:47 Hennies are the size of a horse,
03:49 with a head similar to that of a donkey.
03:51 Its bulky body carries a hairy tail.
03:54 Number 3, mules.
03:57 In direct contrast to hennies, we have mules,
04:00 which are the offspring of a cross in between a mare,
04:02 a female horse, and a male donkey.
04:04 The mule is, in fact, probably the best-known
04:07 and most widely distributed hybrid animal in the world.
04:10 Additionally, mules have been working as a transportation
04:12 animal for years, and, like hennies, mules are sterile.
04:16 Mules are taller than donkeys, but smaller than horses.
04:20 They stand out for having more strength than donkeys,
04:22 but they carry a similar coat.
04:25 Number 2, kama.
04:27 A kama is a cross between a male dromedary camel
04:30 and a female llama.
04:31 The kama carries a head similar to that of a llama,
04:34 while its mantle color is similar to that
04:36 of a dromedary camel, minus the hump.
04:38 This hybrid does not occur naturally
04:40 and is a result of human intervention.
04:43 Number 1, liger.
04:46 The liger is a cross between a male lion and a female tiger.
04:49 A liger's fascinating appearance presents a mixture
04:52 of both its parents.
04:53 Its back and legs usually carry tiger stripes,
04:56 while its head is more similar to that of a lion.
04:58 And males even develop manes.
05:00 The liger can reach up to 4 meters long,
05:02 making it the largest cat in the world.
05:04 Its legs are, however, shorter than both of its parents.
