00:00 El Niño could be dangerous and the effects will be more severe in the country, according to the experts.
00:06 Mark Salazar was there.
00:08 There are indications that El Niño will be more severe and more widespread.
00:16 Not only the reduction of rainwater, but also the high temperature for next dry season.
00:22 That's what we should prepare for.
00:26 That's the critical. It's hot and there's no rain yet.
00:29 17 government agencies, led by the Office of Civil Defense,
00:34 will form the National El Niño Team to prepare the El Niño flood.
00:39 When it comes to water, allocation for hydropower plants is being reduced.
00:45 But the DOE said there are no brownouts and the rate of electricity will not increase because of El Niño.
00:52 The good news is, based on the projections of the Department of Energy, we don't expect any brownouts during the El Niño.
01:04 In our pie chart, coal, geothermal and other fuels are there.
01:12 So, our rule of thumb is, when it comes to renewable energy, fuel is zero.
01:19 When it comes to water, allocation for agriculture will be reduced compared to water for households.
01:25 But the DOE said they see a small effect of drought on rice.
01:31 For rice, we're seeing something like 2 to 5 percent impact on production.
01:37 But that's quite small compared to the previous El Niño phenomena where production declined anywhere from 10 to 20 percent.
01:52 In the supply of vegetables, the Department of Agriculture is seeing a possible price increase.
01:58 There are other sources of vegetables. Let's not forget that malunggay is always there.
02:04 It's always there. Not just the vegetables that are harvested.
02:09 Because when it comes to the later part of the year, there are thinner supplies.
02:14 Earlier at 2 p.m., the water level in Angat Dam was at 180.96 meters.
02:21 It's a little higher than its minimum operating level of 180 meters.
02:26 It's enough to hold the water interruption in Metro Manila, but this level is not comfortable.
02:34 There are 8 to 11 tropical cyclones that are expected to enter before the end of the year.
02:41 But let's not pray for it because the character of the storm in the middle of El Niño is different.
02:47 October, November, December, these are the landfalling, crossing tropical cyclone.
02:52 So if that's what's crossing us, it will be a severe storm.
02:57 If it's not raining, the wind is strong.
03:00 And usually when there's El Niño, the track of our storm is very erratic.
03:05 So it's very challenging for us to predict.
03:08 For GMA Integrated News, Mark Salazar, 24 hours.
