00:03 Over 20,000 African elephants are killed every year.
00:11 At IFAW, we know we can protect this vulnerable species.
00:19 Every day, we're finding fresh solutions
00:22 to the problems facing elephants.
00:26 We're working with partners on the ground,
00:28 rescuing orphaned calves that wouldn't survive on their own.
00:32 They've lost their mothers to poaching, human-wildlife
00:35 conflict, and habitat loss.
00:37 The calves are rehabilitated at orphanages
00:44 through a unique scientific approach that
00:47 provides the care each calf needs before it's safely
00:50 released back into the wild.
00:54 What we learn from each rescue helps us to better care
00:57 for the next orphan.
01:00 By saving individual animals, we are
01:02 helping to save the species.
01:04 We also know that when we release elephants back
01:10 into the wild, they need a safe and secure home to thrive in.
01:15 By partnering with local authorities,
01:17 we are protecting key habitats and landscapes
01:20 for elephant populations.
01:24 This includes protecting humans as well.
01:27 As elephants and communities compete for resources,
01:31 humans and elephants can cross paths.
01:35 We collaborate with communities bordering protected areas
01:38 to keep them safe and find solutions
01:41 for coexistence between humans and wildlife.
01:47 And the work doesn't stop there.
01:49 When ordinary approaches to stopping ivory poachers
01:52 weren't working, we tried something new.
01:56 We connected people across landscapes, local residents
02:00 and governments, the courts and police, park rangers
02:04 and intelligence officers, all to prevent poaching events
02:08 before they happened.
02:10 By bringing people together, we can make the biggest impact.
02:16 We're helping to reduce the global demand for ivory
02:19 through impactful campaigns.
02:21 And our policy teams around the world
02:23 are working alongside governments,
02:25 indigenous people, local community groups
02:28 and with international forums to create effective laws
02:33 and policies that protect wild elephants.
02:37 Together, we can protect elephants, restore habitats
02:41 and help animals and people thrive together.
02:45 Let's get to work.
