The Tour de France 2023 will hold its Grand Départ in the Basque Country, with a first stage in Bilbao on 1st July, and will finish in Paris on 23rd July, on completion of a 3,404-km route that will tackle the difficult slopes of the country’s five mountain ranges. The battle for the Yellow Jersey will witness a decisive and emotional episode on the Puy de Dôme, where a stage finish will be held 35 years after the victory of Denmark’s Johnny Weltz. The return to this legendary climb will be accompanied by the rise in importance of sites that will mark the Tours of the future, such as the Grand Colombier or the Col de la Loze. The sole time-trial on the Tour de France in 2023 will take place over 22 kilometres between Passy and the Combloux ski resort in Haute-Savoie. The sprinters will also have the opportunity to express themselves on finishes in Bordeaux, Limoges, Moulins, before the grand finale on the Champs-Elysées.

00:00 [SPEAKING FRENCH]
00:01 Well, Adam, simply just take us through the emotions, what's
00:14 going through your mind right now.
00:15 You've just won the first stage of the Tour de France,
00:17 and you're going to take the yellow jersey.
00:20 Yeah, honestly, I don't even know what to say.
00:24 I mean, yeah, we tried to set the climate for today.
00:28 And yeah, he attacked, but then it was Hedwin on the descent.
00:31 And yeah, I tried my best.
00:35 I slid back from behind.
00:38 And yeah, my brother came across to me,
00:40 and then we started working together.
00:42 At first, I didn't know if I should work with him.
00:44 I asked on the radio, and he said, yeah, yeah, go for it.
00:46 So yeah, like I said, it's vicious.
00:51 It's the dream scenario to battle it out with Simon here
00:56 in Bilbao.
00:58 I suppose that wasn't really expected.
01:00 No, I mean, I knew it was going good.
01:01 I speak to him every day.
01:03 We're really close.
01:04 And to share this experience with him is really nice.
01:08 But I wish he would pull a little bit easier,
01:10 because he almost dropped me one moment.
01:13 No, but yeah, I'm just super happy.
01:16 And yeah, super happy.
01:18 You're going to take the yellow jersey.
01:20 What does that mean?
01:22 Yeah, I had the yellow jersey a few years ago in COVID year
01:24 2020.
01:25 And back then was also a special moment.
01:28 But really, I just want to keep my feet on the ground.
01:31 We're here for Taddei, the boss.
01:33 He's shown before he's the best in the world.
01:35 And over the next few weeks, I'm sure he's going to show that.
01:39 The legs are good, and you have some freedom.
01:41 You must be delighted with the start of this tour.
01:44 Yeah, I mean, that was always the plan.
01:47 Some people doubted having two guys as leaders.
01:51 But I'm not really a leader.
01:53 I'm more in support.
01:55 When I can do things like this to put other teams under
01:57 pressure, and it works out like this, then it's perfect.
02:01 But like I said, over the next few weeks, I'm all for Taddei,
02:04 100% for Taddei.
02:05 And I'm sure we'll do a good job.
02:07 Thank you very much.
02:08 Thank you.
