France Riots: 1300 arrested overnight, country on the brink of implosion | Oneindia News

France has experienced a fourth consecutive night of unrest as riots, looting and vandalism continued in response to the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy by police during a traffic stop. The interior ministry has said that more than 1,300 people have been arrested and the government has said that ‘all options are on the table’ including declaration of emergency. The riots have brought to the fore the increase in deadly Police shootings on French roads. This was the third lethal shooting of its kind to take place in France this year. In 2022, a record 13 people were killed by police for failing to stop for the police. That was six times more than in 2021. Most of the victims since 2017 have been of black or of Arab origin, reinforcing claims by rights groups of systemic racism within French law enforcement agencies. Experts say that there are two possible reasons for the high-handed behavior of police across France. First...the systemic racism in the forces and second, the long-standing belief that Police are the protectors of the government.
