00:33 Gen. Upendra Divedi began his journey in the Indian Army when he was commissioned into
00:39 the infantry, specifically the J&K rifles, on December 15, 1984. His career spans nearly
00:49 40 years, marked by a variety of command, staff, instructional, and foreign appointments.
00:56 Lt. Gen. Divedi has held numerous command appointments, including leading the 18th J&K
01:05 Rifles Regiment, the 26th Sector Assam Rifles Brigade, and serving as Inspector General
01:12 of Assam Rifles East. He also commanded the prestigious 9 Corps. In the rank of Lieutenant
01:20 General, he has held critical positions, such as Director General Infantry and General Officer
01:26 Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command from 2022 to 2024, before assuming the role
01:34 of Vice Chief of the Army Staff. Lt. Gen. Divedi is an alumnus of some of the most prestigious
01:42 military and defence institutions, including Sainik School, Riva, National Defence College,
01:50 and the US Army War College. He has also completed courses at the Defence Service Staff College
01:57 in Wellington and the Army War College in Mohau. His academic achievements are also
02:03 impressive, with an MPhil in Defence and Management Studies and two Master's degrees in Strategic
02:10 Studies and Military Science. With the end of General Manoj Pandey's tenure
02:16 on June 30, Lt. Gen. Upendra Divedi will step into the role of Chief of the Indian Army
