00:00 Tom, as a teammate, how would you describe what Igan has been through for the last couple
00:09 of years to get to this level?
00:12 I think it's an achievement in itself for him to be back at the Tour de France.
00:18 It doesn't really matter what happens in this race.
00:25 I think it's an incredible achievement to have nearly lost his life to now be on the
00:30 start line of the Tour again.
00:33 I think that we should all respect and acknowledge.
00:43 How do you help him to get more confident after his crash and for his first Grand Tour?
00:51 How do I help him get more confident?
00:54 I'm telling him he's not shit.
01:02 Rod Ellingworth said the other day that the hope is that you could go a step further this
01:07 year.
01:08 Obviously, you won a stage last year, so I'm just kind of curious what that means.
01:11 What would a step further be for you at this Tour de France?
01:15 I think last year started quite well.
01:26 In the mountains I think is where I can make the step.
01:32 That's where I'd like to see myself improve.
01:34 I'm a light rider, so it should suit my characteristics.
01:41 Bigger efforts are where I can make the biggest step.
01:46 In that case, I can make a step in the GC and also in my general performance in the
01:50 Tour.
01:51 That's what I would like to see in the next three weeks.
01:57 Last year you won at the Alpe d'Huez.
02:01 You just said that you are aiming for stages, probably most of all in the mountains.
02:08 Are there any stages or is there any stage of this year's Tour that you are aiming for
02:13 in the Pyrenees or maybe it will be at the Alps like last year?
02:20 I think the first two stages are going to be an opportunity where a lot of riders are
02:25 going to be looking, including myself, to try and win straight off the bat.
02:32 I think after that it's about re-evaluating and re-assessing where to go.
02:40 I don't particularly want to look past these first few days in the Basque Country.
02:49 We all know you for your spectacular, maybe sometimes risky, downhilling.
02:55 Having the accident at the Tour de Suisse in mind, would you say it might affect your
03:01 riding style, maybe even the riding of the whole peloton?
03:07 Yes, I think so.
03:13 That was especially for everyone at the race, it was pretty hard hitting.
03:19 I didn't see a single rider take any risks after that incident in the last two stages.
03:27 Of course, it hit everyone hard.
03:34 Personally, I think one of the things that hit me was it happened descending, which is
03:42 something that I love.
03:43 I think that showed me what the consequences can be when it goes wrong.
03:54 I never take uncalculated risks when I'm descending and I don't take unnecessary risks.
04:02 Things can happen.
04:03 We're riding down the Sense at 100 km/h in Lycra and we're not surrounded by foam.
04:15 [Music]
04:18 you
