Efforts to restrict popular e-cigarette flavors among teens have failed as new brands flooded the market, according to a report by the CDC, CDC Foundation, and the Truth Initiative. The analysis revealed that fruit, candy, spice, and dessert-flavored e-cigarettes, favored by underage smokers, have become more prevalent, accounting for 41.3% of U.S. retail-store e-cigarette unit sales in December 2022, despite regulatory attempts to curb their availability. Although sales of pre-filled pods, such as those by major brands like Juul and Vuse, declined due to restrictions on sweet and fruit flavors, the limitations did not affect disposable e-cigarettes. Disposable e-cigarette unit sales increased from 24.7% to 51.8% between January 2022 and December 2022, representing over half of the U.S. e-cigarette market.
