00:00 And then we went upstairs and we met Joe Bailey.
00:06 Good morning girls.
00:08 Hello.
00:09 Today you're incredibly privileged.
00:11 The man himself has agreed to transform you from pretty into extraordinary.
00:17 Joe Bailey boasts Kylie Minogue, Linda Evangelista, Elle Macpherson as clients.
00:22 You've got eight beautiful girls standing in front of you.
00:24 What do you say?
00:25 I do, I do. I see eight beautiful girls for sure.
00:27 What are you going to do? What are you going to do?
00:29 We might give you some colour of some sort and make you a little bit shorter.
00:33 Very blonde and quite short.
00:35 Whatever that is in there is going to come out.
00:37 Redder and then we'll clean you up a little bit.
00:40 Hosedown thing for sure.
00:43 Alright girls, head to the basins.
00:45 Are you ready for the big shot?
00:55 Yeah. That feels short.
00:59 Her look is sort of not so much a very pretty look but more an edgy sort of look.
01:03 So we gave her an edgy sort of haircut.
01:06 Joe was, he was really cool. He knows what he's talking about.
01:09 Should you win or will you just do chair dressing for now and come back to me?
01:13 Probably for now. But yeah, it's definitely something I want to get through because I mean I'm up to my third year.
01:18 It's a bit of a shame.
01:20 Demullet it.
01:23 We did something dramatic with her and made her really blonde.
01:26 And in this sort of green goddess Hollywood glamour sort of a way.
01:29 I can sort of imagine her on the red carpet with it all sort of quite curly or you know finger waved.
01:34 As I saw each girl transformed, Shannon especially. Shannon's hair just wowed me.
01:40 Chloe, she's got the most beautiful skin and eyes.
01:44 A unique look, so a unique colour seemed to suit her.
01:47 We left her hair long.
01:49 I just want to see it blow out.
01:51 Tong, being Sudanese, has very short, very fine, wiry sort of hair.
01:58 So her aunt has woven in all those hair extensions.
02:02 And in complete contrast to Alana, they've been really well put in.
02:06 They're made out of beautiful hair.
02:07 I actually gave her a fringe and some shape around the face and blunted off the back and the result was amazing.
02:13 I think I'm happier with the way I look now.
02:15 I'm more confident like you know, I don't have to have the band thing.
02:18 It's always my main problem, the band on my head all the time.
02:21 Gemma and Sam were probably the most sort of polished when they arrived here.
02:26 So you know, there's no point in changing just for the sake of changing.
02:29 I see a little bit of root boost. Do I detect some root boost?
02:34 On the first day she came, we saw her backstage and she was going, and I said let me guess, you're from the Gold Coast.
02:40 It looks beautiful.
02:42 It softened it a bit, right?
02:43 You've got a few layers.
02:44 I've got this little part here, this part, and it's just changed like completely. I love it.
02:49 I love my hair so much.
02:52 Alana had hair extensions big enough to come out, which were just a completely different colour to her real hair.
02:58 And they were too long and they were quite frankly, ghastly.
03:03 The hair seems reasonably thick without them.
03:05 Yeah, yeah, and that'll be fine.
03:06 It's very fine without them.
03:07 Is it?
03:08 Yeah.
03:09 I mean, I had my hair short before and I really didn't like it, but it's got everything.
03:14 I got really upset because like I only got them done two weeks ago.
03:18 And like I paid a fair bit of money for them.
03:21 What I said to you at the elimination was that we needed to soften your look.
03:27 A big part of softening your look is actually putting your faith in other people's hands and allowing them to transform you.
03:33 Unless you're prepared to do that, your look will stay the same and you won't get the work.
03:37 I shed some light on this too. The thing is, darling, we need to make you look really beautiful and these aren't beautiful.
03:43 I said to her, if you're serious about modelling, you can't have them.
03:47 And she said, I'd rather do some modelling now.
03:49 And I said, well, you know, if you want to do it in this sort of league though, no models have hair extensions like that in their hair.
03:56 Not one I've ever touched.
03:57 And she still sort of wanted to argue about it.
03:59 She's saying that hair extensions are like a thousand dollars, but Zoe's a hairdresser.
04:04 And she said for those extensions, she wouldn't have paid more than five, six hundred dollars for them.
04:09 How much did your hair extensions cost?
04:10 They cost about four fifty.
04:12 For the whole head?
04:13 For the whole hair, yeah.
04:14 That's great.
04:15 I don't like orange.
04:16 It's not orange, it's strawberry.
04:18 Strawberry.
04:19 Strawberry.
04:20 Strawberry.
04:21 She resisted everything, pretty much. The colour, the removal of the wave and the cut.
04:26 She's saying how she's going to go back to Joe Bailey and make him put in her extensions.
04:31 And like, woman, do you know who you're talking about?
04:35 Like Joe Bailey, he's got an ad and everything.
04:37 Extraordinary that you go in a competition and then argue about the very thing that may win you the competition.
04:44 I don't want to be sitting there patting her hand saying it's okay, it's okay, when she's having a fit about her hair.
04:50 I do not believe in the way that she's behaving.
04:52 No, I do not condone it and no, I will not be a part of it.
04:56 Unfortunately, as you know, for one of you, this is where the journey ends.
05:00 Now, before I introduce you to your judges, let me tell you what the winner will receive.
05:05 Australia's next top model will get a contract with Sheep Management, my agency,
05:11 a trip to Milan to meet with Fashion, one of Italy's top agencies.
05:15 That's an all expenses paid trip plus $1,000 spending money,
05:20 an eight-page editorial with Cleo magazine and you will star in a campaign for Napoleon Cosmetics.
05:26 Okay, so the judges who will help you decide which of you stay and who will be going home will be Marguerite Kramer.
05:33 She has worked with the world's fashion heavyweights.
05:36 Ken Thompson is a great Australian stylist.
05:39 Alex Perry is one of Australia's most renowned designers.
05:41 Your guest judge this week is Joe Bailey.
05:44 He's the man who's responsible for giving you your hair makeovers and he's also the man who's about to give you your hair challenge.
05:51 Okay, girls, tonight what I'd like you to do is create a red carpet hairstyle in five minutes
05:57 and each one of you has a little package from Joe Bailey that has a brush inside,
06:01 some elastic bands, some pins and some hair product and your time starts now.
06:05 You need to snap necks on that carpet.
06:12 Zoe's going for something about Mary.
06:14 Sleek, polished, stylish.
06:17 Fantastic.
06:18 Two blood brushes down.
06:20 Okay, we're going to ask each of you to step forward and be assessed hairstyle number one.
06:25 Miss Alana.
06:26 I think it's like a Franklin's look and I don't understand why you didn't turn the blow dryer on.
06:32 And Tom.
06:33 I think it's wacky and tribal.
06:35 And I can imagine it with some sort of amazing billowing Valentino dress.
06:39 Yeah, yeah, yeah, like a halter neck.
06:40 Yeah, exactly.
06:41 Lots of colours.
06:42 Let's look at the end of ourselves.
06:44 Chloe.
06:45 Oh, I like the skin in that.
06:50 I like the undone bun. It's classic and I think it suits you and I think it's very elegant.
06:55 It's a very Carolyn Bissette Kennedy and very appropriate.
06:59 Gemma.
07:00 I don't have a skin.
07:02 I like sort of the tidal wave thing that's coming off the side of your head.
07:06 I'm a little more opposed to the tidal wave. I think it looks a little more Poseidon adventure.
07:11 It's prom gone wrong. I'm sorry.
07:14 You won't remember this because you weren't born but Demi Moore did something like that in St. Elmo's Fire and it was a bit frightening back then.
07:21 I'm just getting a flashback right now.
07:23 Next.
07:24 In the third scene Demi Moore also did like a sideburns.
07:28 It's nostalgic for me. I think it looks great.
07:32 I like it.
07:33 Zoe.
07:35 You've used pins, you've used them properly and you've used product I think the best of anybody so far. It's great.
07:41 Yeah, it looks like you had longer than five minutes.
07:44 But we're expecting big things from this.
07:46 It's sort of Sharon Stone, a little crazy. I actually don't mind it.
07:52 I'm getting more David Beckham when he missed the goal.
07:55 I think with the right outfit I think it rocks. I think it's good.
07:58 Shannon.
08:00 Lose the pins. It's pin abuse.
08:04 Cool because I had the long part.
08:05 Whenever I do my hair no matter what I'll put a pin in it even if I don't need it.
08:08 The tip is that when you think you've got enough hairspray on put some more.
08:13 Now we'd like for all the girls to leave bar Alana.
08:17 Alana.
08:17 (upbeat music)
