00:00 Coffee Break with me! Woo! Hi guys! Welcome back to my channel. Today I am here with the
00:05 How I Paint My Nails video. How I Paint My Nails tutorial? No, video. So many of you have asked me
00:14 to do a video on how I paint my nails and at first I used to think the idea was a little bit
00:19 like, well that's kind of self-explanatory, but then I was like, no Dani, you're a teacher
00:25 and it's kind of like being a math teacher. There's multiple ways to solve the same problem.
00:30 So I thought, okay, maybe some people do their nails a certain way, others do it another way,
00:37 and if I show them how I do it my way, it may be an easier way. I don't know. So I thought that I
00:42 would do this video for you guys. If you guys check in the description box below, I also did
00:46 a video today on how I shape my nails. So if you are interested in learning how I cut and shape
00:54 my nails, the tools that I use, things like that, then check the description box below.
00:58 But today we're going to talk about how to go from this to this. The very first thing that I recommend
01:04 or that I suggest or that I use when I'm painting my nails is a base coat. This is the base coat
01:10 from Formula X. I discovered this last Christmas when I was doing a Christmas for beauty lovers,
01:20 what I did a series of videos where I was recommending beauty products for beauty lovers
01:25 in case people were looking to Christmas shop. And this was brand new back then, and I fell in love
01:31 with the base coat. The nail cleanser and the top coat are not good in my opinion, but this base coat
01:39 is magic. It is amazing. It is so sticky. It holds on to any color you want. In fact, if you are the
01:46 type of person that gets anxiety or gets bored and starts picking at your nails, this will not allow
01:55 you to pick up a color. It will bring up an entire first layer of nail if you decide to do that.
02:02 That's how sticky it is. It is a fantastic nail base. After that, we use whatever nail polish you
02:09 want. In this case, we're going to use Wet n Wild Wild Shine Formula. Wet n Wild polishes in general
02:17 are all very, very, very good. You can get them on sale as cheap as $0.40. That's the polish we're
02:24 going to use. After that, obviously our Glisten and Glow HK Girl Top Coat. I have tried so many
02:34 top coats, and I've thrown away so many top coats you cannot even believe it. This came into my life
02:40 thanks to Jess from Love for Lacquer. I will link her blog down below. I have never looked back
02:47 since. In fact, since I've discovered this top coat, I have recommended it to so many people
02:53 and shouted it from the rooftops. So many of you have come back and said, "Holy hell, where has
02:58 this top coat been all my life?" Thank you for recommending it. It is magic in a bottle. I agree.
03:05 It is definitely magic in a bottle. I also like to keep on hand, in case I mess up, I always like
03:10 to keep nail polish pads on hand. Not nail polish and cotton pads separately. I like to keep these
03:19 because when I mess up, I get so frustrated I just remove the entire finger and start all over.
03:24 If I'm doing a nail art or anything, these are also really great to wipe the tip of whatever
03:34 dotting tool I'm using or brush or whatever. So I really like these nail polish pads from LaFresh.
03:40 I think we're just going to go ahead and get started. I'm not going to bore you too much with
03:44 how I apply my base coat because there's no special placement or scientific movement involved. I am
03:54 already wearing a nail strengthener, which is why my nail looks a little shiny. I'm wearing OPI's
03:58 Nail Envy. So whenever I do my nails, I always start on the outside and then work my way in.
04:05 When it comes to the base coat, I'm not very precise. I just do a couple of swipes around
04:11 the edges like this and then I make sure I hit the tip really, really well because that's where
04:17 the nail polish chips at the tip of your nail. So always kind of get around the sides like that,
04:26 but then focus whatever's left over on the tip of your nail. That's the most important place.
04:32 Thank God this is clear. Well, it's kind of pink, but it shows up clear. Otherwise,
04:37 I am so messy with my base coat, it would look really, really bad. So always focus it on the
04:44 tip because that's where your nails chip the most. And that's my funky thumbnail.
04:48 And then a couple swipes and then focus it on the tip. We're going to let that dry for a little
04:59 while. It really doesn't need that much time to dry, but whenever you're layering, strengthener,
05:06 base coat, nail polish, top coat, you want to give yourself a good 30 seconds to a minute in between
05:14 to dry. Okay, so let's go ahead and get started. We're going to use this beautiful blue color from
05:19 Wet n Wild. And to kind of give you guys an idea of how I paint my nails, I always do two layers.
05:27 If I buy a polish that requires three layers, I will never use it again. I don't do three layers.
05:32 That is way too much work. So I always do two layers, even if it's a one-coater. And the first
05:38 layer is always a wreck. It is always streaky and it is always thin and it is always not the cleanest.
05:47 And then the second coat is the one where I kind of perfect it. The top coat just evens out
05:53 everything perfectly. So I'm going to show you guys on my pinky nail. Like I told you guys, I
05:58 always start on the outer edge first and then work my way in. So I always do my thumb last.
06:04 So what I do is I take my bottle of polish, I take out the brush, and I always run one side of it
06:16 dry. Completely dry. And I leave the other side alone. Totally, totally leave it alone. So you're
06:23 going to see you get quite a bit of polish on that side. And then I kind of place my brush in the
06:29 center, but then I drag it out to one of the edges. I push it down to the base and then I drag it out
06:40 to the other edge. And then I always run it on the tip of my nail. Do you guys see how streaky that is?
06:48 Super streaky, but it is the first layer and so I never care. I'm like, hey, it's the first layer,
06:54 who cares? I don't care because the second layer is going to cover up everything. So let's do this
07:01 next nail over here. Again, just wipe one side of the brush off. I place it in the middle.
07:08 I go down one side. I push it down to almost the cuticle and then I run it down the other side.
07:19 I wipe whatever is left over on the brush and then I focus on the edge of the nail, like the tip of it.
07:26 You see all those streaks? It's all smoke and mirrors, guys, when I do my nails.
07:37 As long as the final product looks good, that's all that matters, right?
07:42 So again, wipe one side off, start at the center and then go down one side, push it down to the base
07:49 and then go down the other side. Wipe off the excess and make sure the tip is covered.
07:56 Some people say I hold my brush differently. I don't think I do, but I guess I do. I've never
08:05 paid attention to how people paint their nails, so I can't really say, but I grab my brush. I don't
08:11 know if you guys notice. Let me show you with this one. I grab my brush. I put my pointer finger on
08:17 the top of the brush. Is that weird? So I pinch it with my thumb and my middle finger. I pinch
08:27 the sides of the brush and then I put my pointer finger at the tip of the cap, like that.
08:37 Is that super weird? I don't think it's weird. Let me get in here like that. That's how I hold
08:43 my brush. Is that weird? The reason that I start in the middle, I drop the majority of the polish
08:50 in the middle. That's why I start there. So I drop the majority of the polish there and I push out
08:55 and then I go to one side and then the other side so that the polish doesn't pool in the sides of my
09:02 nails. That's a lot of times what happens when you guys do your nails. You have so much polish,
09:08 it pools into the sides of your nails and then you get those smears on the sides. I'll show you
09:13 guys two more nails and then I'll fast forward through the rest. When it comes to the second
09:20 layer or the last layer, I do the same exact thing, except I'm a little bit more careful
09:26 because I don't want to go back and clean up anything. So I'll do the middle, the side,
09:33 and then the other side. And then definitely if you haven't done the tip, you want to focus.
09:38 Am I even in the... I'm going to show you guys again. When it comes to the second layer,
09:43 same thing. Dip it, clean off one side of the brush, drop the polish in the center,
09:50 and then I go down one side. Make sure I do the base of my nail and then I go down the other side.
09:58 Make sure you got the edges. You always want to make sure you get the edges, always. With the
10:08 nail strengthener, with the base coat, with the polish, and with the fast drying top coat,
10:13 you're almost creating like an enclosure or a cap or like your own fake gel nail. You always
10:22 want to make sure. Because if you don't go down and always get the edge of the nail,
10:27 it's easier to chip your nails or if your fast drying top coat has any shrink, it will pull
10:34 your nail polish off. That's another reason why you can get bubbling. Now for the final step,
10:39 the top coat. This top coat, oh you guys, it will change your life completely. I'm so theatrical
10:49 and dramatic, I know, but I am not joking when I would tell you that I am never going to use
10:54 another top coat again in my life. You can already tell this Wet n Wild polish is already a really
10:59 good polish. It's a great polish. It already has a high shine finish to it, but the reason I like
11:06 to wear a top coat is because it creates almost like a sandwich. It seals everything in, it gives
11:12 it a super high shine, and it dries your polish in 15 seconds I would say or less. It's incredible.
11:23 It's amazing. It doesn't get thick and goopy like others. It dries really fast and it doesn't cause
11:31 shrink. Have you guys ever used any top coats that after a while they start to pull away at
11:38 your cuticles? So whenever you add the top coat, two or three days later you see your nail polish
11:43 kind of pulling away from the sides of your nail. This one doesn't do that. It's an amazing top coat.
11:48 I almost wish I had picked a different nail polish so you guys could see the difference in
11:54 how incredibly shiny it is. But you guys have said on my Instagram, "Hey Dani, what top coat do you
12:00 use? Your nails are incredibly shiny. It makes it look like gel." No joke you guys, it makes your
12:06 nail polish look like gel. So you can tell on the top hand right here I already have the gel coat on.
12:12 On the bottom nail I don't. So it's still a very shiny nail polish. You can't really tell the
12:18 difference, but trust me you guys, it makes the difference. I don't have a special way of applying
12:24 the fast drying, high shine top coat. How long did it take me to come up with that?
12:34 But I will have to say you want to make sure you get the edges
12:50 and the tip of your nail. Always enclose the tip. That's like my biggest recommendation when you're
12:57 painting your nails. Always enclose the tip. This top coat, this formula, like this combination of
13:03 base coat and top coat makes my nail polish last around 11 to 12 days. So I change my nail polish
13:13 one to two times a week because I like to, but not because I have to. When I use this base coat
13:20 and I use this top coat, it makes my nail polish last almost two weeks. And the only reason it lasts
13:27 two weeks is because it starts to get dull, not because it chips. It like cements onto my nails
13:35 and does not go anywhere. So I really hope you guys enjoyed this video. I know you guys have
13:39 been asking for it for a little while now, so I wanted to deliver. Again, if you guys are interested
13:44 in how I shape my nails, I will link that video down below as well. But just a quick recap, HK
13:51 Girl High Shine Top Coat, you guys, it will change your life. It makes your nails look like gel nails.
13:57 Look at that. So that one and the Formula X base coat, the pink one. I know there's other pink base
14:04 coats out there. I haven't personally tried any of them, but I'm so in love with this one that I'm
14:08 definitely not curious to try. So that is how I do my nails. I never have to clean around the edges.
14:14 I just take my time. A couple of tips that I have for you guys is never do your nails under a vent.
14:19 Never do your nails in a room where the fan is on. Never do your nails if your hands are very, very
14:27 cold because what happens is with cold fingers, your nail polish gets thick when you're applying
14:33 it. It doesn't dry it out or anything. It just gets thick. And so it's a lot harder to blend out
14:39 the polish or to spread it out evenly on your nails. So kind of give your hands a little warm up.
14:44 And you should be good to go. I don't like to mess with my cuticles or anything like that. I just use
14:50 hand lotion. I keep it simple. Whenever you can, guys, use dish gloves when you're doing the dishes,
14:55 when you're cleaning the house, scrubbing toilets. Whenever you can, use dish gloves, and I ensure
15:00 that your manicure will last at least seven days. So that is it for this video, you guys. Please let
15:05 me know your thoughts in the comment section below. And as always, if you guys found this video useful,
15:10 entertaining, or learned something, please give me a thumbs up or subscribe if you haven't already.
15:15 And until next time, this coffee break is over. Bye, guys!
