00:00 Ferocious, aggressive, fearless.
00:05 The candidates for the title "The Best Animal in the World" from the 9th episode of Animal Battle are truly intimidating.
00:12 Ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor to introduce you to our competitors.
00:16 The Wolverine vs. The Honey Badger.
00:21 Also, you might want to stick until the end of the video to find out who is the winner of the last battle between the Lynx and the Snow Leopard.
00:27 Let's do it!
00:29 Hi, I'm Mario and this is Animal Battle.
00:32 So how are we going to find out who is going to be the winner of this battle?
00:41 Well, focusing only on power isn't enough, so we are going to evaluate them based on 6 different characteristics.
00:48 Agility, Attack, Defense, Intelligence, Bonus Skill and Survival.
00:55 The most captivating part are going to be their Attack and Defense stats, which are just amazing, but you might also be surprised by their Intelligence stats.
01:02 So let's start off with Agility.
01:04 They might not be as fast as other carnivores like wolves, hyenas and felids due to their short legs and elongated body, because they are actually closely related to weasels.
01:14 Nonetheless, they are still pretty fast, Honey Badgers reaching speeds of up to 31 km/h and Wolverines are even faster, being able to run at a speed of 48 km/h.
01:25 Also, both of them are really good climbers, being able to climb trees with ease using their sharp claws.
01:31 Another adaptation that the Wolverine has are its large paws perfect for walking on snow, which double in size every time they take a step.
01:39 That's about it for Agility, so let's see their stats.
01:43 Pretty good.
01:46 Still, they are not as agile as leopards or cheetahs, but they don't actually need to, because they don't have to back off.
01:53 We are going to talk about that in the next section, about Attack and Defense.
01:57 At a first glance, they might seem pretty small.
01:59 Honey Badgers reach up to 77 cm in length plus a 30 cm long tail.
02:04 Males usually weigh around 9 to 16 kg.
02:07 Wolverines are slightly larger, reaching up to 107 cm in length plus a 26 cm tail and can weigh up to 25 kg.
02:16 The largest one recorded weighted 35 kg.
02:19 Yeah, they look like weasels on steroids, but they are still smaller than other big carnivores.
02:24 But size doesn't matter, it is the attitude that counts.
02:27 And their ferociousness, it's unmatchable.
02:30 Wolverines can hunt a lot of types of animals from small ones like squirrels, rabbits and beavers to animals way larger than them like deer, bison, moose and elk.
02:40 But they are actually primarily scavengers, searching for frozen carcasses in the snow or stealing the kills from packs of wolves or lynxes.
02:48 That's right, wolverines aren't afraid to face such big carnivores.
02:52 They are very aggressive and they don't accept defeat.
02:55 You know they aren't joking when even bears are afraid of them and back off.
02:59 It is said that a wolverine killed a polar bear at a zoo, biting its neck and suffocating it.
03:04 They have long sharp claws, powerful jaws and a special upper molar in the back of the mouth rotated 90 degrees towards the inside of the mouth,
03:13 which allows wolverines to tear off meat from frozen carcasses and crush bones, teeth and hooves.
03:19 How can the honey badger compete with such an aggressive animal?
03:23 Well, to be honest, it might be even more aggressive, especially for its size.
03:28 They can eat rodents, frogs, lizards and even, hear me now, venomous snakes like cobras.
03:35 Keep that in mind because we'll talk about it after we find out how fearless they are.
03:39 Honey badgers can take on any African predator if needed, like cheetahs, hyenas, leopards and even lions.
03:46 That is right, nothing scares a honey badger.
03:49 It can steal the kill from a leopard or even face a hyena clan.
03:53 But six lions must be enough to kill a honey badger, right?
03:56 Wrong! It can fight back and roll like a ball for defense.
03:59 Also, the honey badger's skin cannot be penetrated by porcupine quills, animal bites and bee stings,
04:06 so it is not afraid to break into a beehive to eat its beloved honey.
04:10 Also, it has an anal pouch to release a strong odor, like skunks do, to calm bees in for defense against bigger predators.
04:17 And if that wasn't enough, the honey badger is immune to venom.
04:21 It develops this immunity, making scorpions sting it, and when it is ready, the honey badger can face venomous snakes.
04:28 The honey badger doesn't care, it doesn't back off even after painful bites, and, in the end, the snake becomes its prey.
04:35 Its amazing defense combined with its powerful bite able to crush a tortoise's shell,
04:39 strong front claws longer than those of a black bear,
04:42 its aggression and attitude make big predators like lions want to avoid the honey badger.
04:46 It works so good that cheetah cubs evolved to look like honey badgers for a better chance of survival.
04:52 Going back to the wolverine, I can also mention that it has thick fur for protection and can also release a very nasty smell from its hand glands.
05:00 It is so stinky that the wolverine is also called the skunk bear.
05:04 In the end, you should know that both honey badgers and wolverines don't give a capybara.
05:08 Now, let's see their attack and defense stats.
05:14 Their stats are just amazing, even more if you take in consideration their size.
05:19 Both of them have really high attack stats due to their aggression,
05:22 but the wolverine has bigger attack stats being larger,
05:25 and the honey badger has a way greater defense due to its thick skin and venom resistance.
05:30 Now, we are moving on to bonus skills.
05:32 Wolverines have a thick, waterproof fur being resistant to frost.
05:36 A very impressive ability is that they can sniff a prey buried more than 6 meters beneath the snow.
05:42 That is why every avalanche is like a feast to them.
05:45 Honey badgers are very skilled diggers, being able to dig tunnels into hard ground in 10 minutes.
05:50 A even more interesting fact is that it forms a mutualistic relationship with a bird called honey guide,
05:56 which finds a beehive and leads the honey badger to it to break into the hive so that both of them can have a delicious meal.
06:02 And their bonus skill stats are

06:04 Pretty good.
06:09 And now we are going to talk about intelligence.
06:11 Both of them are pretty intelligent, being carnivores and hunting requires a higher level of intelligence.
06:17 Also, honey badgers are remarkably smart and are masters of escaping.
06:21 They can open locks cooperating.
06:23 If that doesn't work, they can dig beneath the wall, and if that is not possible,
06:27 they are actually capable of using tools to escape.
06:30 Honey badgers would use objects like stones, branches, and anything they can find to escape an enclosure.
06:36 Let's see their intelligence stats.
06:39 Both have high intelligence stats, but the honey badgers are better at this due to their ability to use tools.
06:45 And last, but not least, let's go to survival, because an animal species can be successful as long as it is not extinct.
06:52 Both are doing good here, being listed as a least conserved species and living about 8 years in the wild,
06:58 and even more in captivity.
07:00 Honey badgers can give birth to about 2 kids at once, and wolverines can have 2 to 3 kids.
07:05 Surprisingly, wolverine males are pretty good at playing with their children occasionally.
07:10 And here are the final stats.
07:12 They have incredible stats, wolverines being better at agility and attack,
07:20 while honey badgers are better at defense and intelligence.
