00:00 They have long claws, a bone-crushing bite, and a tough attitude.
00:07 Ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor to announce the competitors of the 26th episode of Animal Battle.
00:14 The Tasmanian Devil vs. The European Badger.
00:20 And you already know that if you stick until the end of the video, you will be able to vote the winner of this Animal Battle,
00:26 and you will find out who won the previous one between the Harpy Eagle and the Osprey.
00:31 Let's do it!
00:32 I am Mario and this is Animal Battle.
00:36 The rules of an Animal Battle are straightforward.
00:45 We are going to compare our two candidates based on the six sacred characteristics,
00:50 which are agility, attack, defense, intelligence, bonus skill, and survival.
00:56 After that, you will vote the winner in a poll. Simple as that.
01:00 So let's go right to agility.
01:03 The Tasmanian Devil has quite a unique appearance, with four legs slightly longer than his hind legs,
01:08 but despite that, it is capable of surprising speed and endurance.
01:13 It can reach 13 km/h when running, can climb trees, and can swim across rivers.
01:19 What about the European Badger?
01:21 Those short legs are clearly not suited for running, right?
01:25 Well, the Badger can actually reach up to 30 km/h, which is really impressive.
01:31 It can also swim pretty well, but that's about it for agility, so let's see their stats.
01:37 While these agility stats are good for their size and appearance,
01:44 they are still not very impressive compared to other animals.
01:47 But you will find out that agility might not be that important
01:50 when we will talk about their attack and defense stats.
01:53 Before that though, let's go to their bonus skills.
01:56 Both of these animals are nocturnal, so it makes sense that their senses are adapted exactly for foraging in the dark.
02:02 The European Badger has an acute sense of smell, but only normal hearing and monochromatic vision,
02:08 meaning that they can't see red color and react only to moving objects.
02:13 The Tasmanian Devil's dominant sense is hearing, followed by its excellent sense of smell with a range of 1 km.
02:19 The Devil has black and white vision, which is also better suited for detecting moving objects.
02:24 Both the Tasmanian Devil and the Badger have sand glands that release a very nasty smell when frightened.
02:30 Still, they mostly use these for marking their territories, because the smell is their unique signature.
02:36 I can also mention that they have claws that are used for tigging,
02:39 and that the facial mask of the Badger is actually used as a warning and for camouflage.
02:44 You might be wondering how black and white mask would help with camouflage during the day.
02:49 It doesn't help during the day, but it is very useful at night.
02:53 It looks like the Tasmanian Devil still has better bonus skill stats, but the Badger has an ace up its sleeve.
02:59 Whilst the Tasmanian Devil is mostly solitary, the European Badger lives in groups that usually consist of 6 individuals,
03:05 but can sometimes have up to 23 members.
03:08 These groups live in complex dens called sets, with multiple exits and chambers.
03:13 They even have toilets outside of their dens and constantly clean their sets and change their beddings.
03:19 And last but not least, the European Badger can sleep during the winter to skip it,
03:23 although it usually doesn't fully hibernate as bears do.
03:26 Now we shall see their bonus skill stats.
03:32 As you can observe the Badger does better here as there are a lot of advantages when it comes to living in groups.
03:38 Can the Tasmanian Devil make a comeback? Let's look at their attack and defense and find out.
03:43 The Tasmanian Devil is the largest carnivorous marsupial after the extinction of the Tasmanian Tiger.
03:49 But don't let that fool you because males still reach only up to 65 cm in length plus a 20 cm long tail and weigh 8 kg on average.
03:58 European Badgers are larger, reaching up to 90 cm in length plus a 24 cm long tail and 13 kg on average,
04:06 but can even reach 17 kg at the beginning of the winter.
04:10 The heaviest Badger recorded weighed more than 27 kg.
04:14 Both the Devil and the Badger can eat a variety of animals.
04:17 Now what would you like to order?
04:19 For you, Mr. Badger, I can recommend tasty earthworms or insects,
04:24 a small mammal like a rabbit or a hedgehog, carrion, or perhaps you'd like some cereals or fruit.
04:30 The European Badger can eat a variety of foods, being an opportunistic omnivore.
04:35 It has long and strong claws and jaws powerful enough to crush bones.
04:39 Also, it has no problems devouring a wasp nest, since the wasps are no match for the Badger's very thick skin, and that's fair.
04:47 Just like its cousin the Honey Badger, the European Badger doesn't care.
04:51 This time the Badger decides to hunt some rabbits, digging them out of their dens.
04:56 What about you, Mr. Tasmanian Devil?
04:58 You can have a wombat, a bird, a fish, a frog, a reptile, or even a sheep.
05:05 Or would you like to have the usual this time?
05:08 The Tasmanian Devil can attack a 30 kg wombat or even a sheep if it is ill, using its long claws to easily grip the prey.
05:15 But chasing these animals down might not be that easy with those low agility stats.
05:20 So the Devil will have a usual this time, which is carrion.
05:23 The Tasmanian Devil will devour the entire carrion, even the skin and bones.
05:28 It is an easy task for the animal with the most powerful bite for its size.
05:32 You might have observed that the Tasmanian Devil has a large head for its body.
05:36 Its jaw can open wide, allowing the Devil to generate a force of 56 kg in order to tear meat and crush bones.
05:44 Its bite is so strong that it can bite through thick metal wire.
05:48 Other solitary Devils can also join the feast, and while they are eating, the Devils live up to their name, making a lot of noise.
05:56 I wouldn't want to hear that in the middle of the night.
06:02 But, despite their appearance, Tasmanian Devils are less territorial than the European Badgers.
06:08 Of course, aside from other badgers, the European Badger has to be aware of its predators, like wolves, lynxes, and bears in some regions.
06:16 Its thick skin will be useful for defense.
06:19 The Tasmanian Devil on the other side shouldn't worry about predators, because it is the largest carnivore in Tasmania.
06:25 That being said, let's see their stats.
06:28 They have very high attack and defense stats for their size.
06:35 The Tasmanian Devil matching the Badger, even though it is smaller, because of its incredible bite force and lack of predators.
06:42 When it comes to intelligence, both are doing well.
06:45 They are both predators, and this requires a higher level of intelligence.
06:49 Also, we can see the Tasmanian Devils are quite clever from a National Geographic study,
06:54 in which some individuals could remove a bait from the traps without getting caught,
06:58 and one female blocked the entrance to her den to keep her pup safe.
07:02 So their intelligence stats are

07:04 Pretty good.
07:09 And lastly, let's talk about survival, because there is no point in having high stats if a species is going extinct.
07:15 The European Badger is doing well here, being classified as a least concern species with a population of more than 500,000 individuals.
07:23 It can also give birth to 1-5 cubs which can live up to 15 years.
07:28 The Tasmanian Devil is doing worse though, being classified as an endangered species with a population of 10,000-15,000 individuals.
07:37 Their entire population is threatened by the Devil Facial Tumor Disease,
07:41 a type of transmissible cancer passed on to other devils through biting.
07:45 The tumors grow on the devil's face and eventually, they will be too large for the animal to feed, resulting in death.
07:52 The Tasmanian Devil will usually give birth to 20-30 pups, but only 4 of them will get to fit in the mother's pouch and survive.
08:00 These pups can live up to 8 years, but the average lifespan of Tasmanian Devils is about 3-4 years.
08:06 Now let's see their final stats.
08:08 So they have really good stats, aside from agility and survival for Tasmanian Devils.
08:17 But who is the winner? It is you who will choose the winner voting in the poll right there,
08:21 and feel free to leave your opinions in the comments down below.
08:24 I will announce the winner in the next episode, so subscribe to mfromanimals not to miss it,
08:29 and because you will help Spike achieve his goal of beating both PewDiePie and T-Series.
08:35 Now is the time to announce the winner of the last animal battle between the Harpy Eagle and the Osprey.
08:41 So, after counting all the votes, the winner is...
08:46 The Harpy Eagle! A really powerful raptor!
08:50 If you wanted the Osprey to win, don't be upset because here on mfromanimals we love and respect all animals.
08:57 So, once again, don't forget to vote the winner of this episode's battle in the top right corner.
