00:00 Komodo Dragon versus Black K-Man.
00:04 Which one is going to win the battle of the ancient reptiles?
00:08 Let's find out!
00:09 I am Mario and this is Animal Battle!
00:13 Just like I do in every episode of Animal Battle,
00:21 I will be going through the six characteristics.
00:24 Agility, Attack, Defense, Intelligence, Bonus Skill and Survival.
00:29 And after that, you will choose the winner of this battle by voting in the comments.
00:34 I will also announce the winner of the last battle between the wild boar and the warthog at the end of this video.
00:39 The number of votes for those two are pretty close, so stay tuned until the end of the video to find out who won.
00:45 And, before we go to the first characteristic, I'd like to remark that this is the 30th episode of Animal Battle,
00:51 and we are really close to reaching 30,000 subscribers,
00:54 so me and Spike would really appreciate it if you smash that subscribe button to reach that milestone after this video.
01:00 Now let's go right to the Agility stats.
01:02 Even if the Komodo Dragon is a huge lizard, in fact, the largest species of lizard,
01:07 it can reach a surprising speed while sprinting of 20 km/h.
01:11 It covers a lot of ground with each step it takes.
01:14 The Black K-Man is slower on land with its shorter legs, but that is because it is well adapted for life in water.
01:20 It can actually swim with a speed of up to 48 km/h.
01:24 So, while Usain Bolt could easily escape from a Komodo Dragon on land,
01:28 he'd have no chance to escape from Black K-Man in water.
01:31 Even though it is not as well adapted for aquatic life,
01:34 the Komodo Dragon is still a great swimmer and can dive up to 4.5 meters in depth.
01:39 It can also climb trees using its powerful claws,
01:42 although this might prove to be a little bit complicated for the huge adults that could just break the branches.
01:47 So let's see the Agility stats.
01:50 So both of them have really high stats.
01:53 The Black K-Man being an incredible swimmer,
01:56 whilst the Komodo Dragon is well adapted for moving in water, on land and even in trees.
02:01 Now I'd like to mention their bone skills,
02:03 which are going to be important for their attack and defense stats as well.
02:06 When it comes to their senses, it seems that both of them specialize differently.
02:10 The Komodo Dragon has poor hearing and night vision,
02:13 but makes up for it with a tongue perfect for detecting,
02:16 smelling and tasting stimuli.
02:19 It can detect current from up to 9.5 km away.
02:22 The Black K-Man on the other side has acute hearing and great eyesight.
02:26 Its large eyes located on top of its head to see above the surface while swimming are perfect for night vision.
02:32 They also reflect light shining in the dark.
02:35 The K-Man's black coloration is also perfect for camouflage during the night,
02:39 and it becomes virtually invisible while submerged underwater even during the day.
02:44 Going back to the Komodo Dragon, I can also mention that it is a powerful digger.
02:48 For shelter, it digs a hole that can be 1 to 3 meters wide to feed such a huge lizard.
02:54 The Black K-Man also has an interesting ritual used for attracting females.
02:58 During the mating period, the male Black K-Man will submerge its back underwater
03:03 and start vibrating to make the water on top of its back dance.
03:06 So basically, the male that really knows how to vibe will be considered the most handsome
03:11 and the strongest by the female.
03:13 If you've enjoyed this video so far, give it a thumbs up,
03:16 and if you hate it, you can give it a thumbs down.
03:19 Either way, the YouTube algorithm will consider the feedback as more audience interaction
03:23 and will show it to more people.
03:25 So we can see their bonus kill stats now.
03:27 Pretty good.
03:32 Now let's go to their attack and defense stats,
03:34 which are the most important and interesting facts for these dinosaur-like reptiles.
03:39 I've said before that the Komodo dragon is the largest species of lizards on the planet,
03:43 but exactly how big is it?
03:45 Males would usually reach up to 91 kilograms in weight and 2.59 meters in length.
03:50 The largest one recorded had a length of 3.13 meters and weighed 166 kilograms.
03:56 Black K-Mans are even larger than that though.
03:59 Males are usually up to 4.3 meters long and weigh 300 kilograms on average.
04:04 But some old males can grow larger than 5 meters and even exceed 500 kilograms.
04:10 That makes the Black K-Man one of the largest reptiles.
04:13 Good evening, gentlemen.
04:17 What would you like to order?
04:18 For you, Mr. Komodo dragon, I can recommend some reptiles,
04:22 birds, eggs, or perhaps some mammals like a monkey, wild boar, deer,
04:27 or even a water buffalo if you are especially hungry,
04:30 or maybe some tasty carrion.
04:33 The Komodo dragon is an ambush predator and will usually hunt in the afternoon.
04:38 It will approach the prey as close as possible and will start chasing it and trying to bite it.
04:43 Once it manages to bite the prey with its 2.5 centimeter long backward-facing teeth,
04:47 it will try knocking down the prey.
04:49 Still, there is a chance that the prey will escape,
04:52 but the Komodo dragon will still get its meal because it knows that the prey will soon die.
04:57 Only one bite was enough to inject its venomous saliva.
05:00 It will prevent the prey's blood from coagulating and the prey will bleed out to death.
05:05 Now the Komodo dragon only has to track down the prey using its incredible smell.
05:09 It needs to be quick though, because once other dragons nearby sense the smell,
05:13 they will come in a rush to join the meal.
05:15 The feeding frenzy begins.
05:18 Since the dragon's teeth are not well adapted for chewing,
05:20 it will rip large chunks of the prey and just swallow them whole.
05:24 In no time the dragons will have devoured the entire prey, even the bones.
05:29 The Komodo dragon has a huge appetite and can eat up to 80% of its own body mass in one meal,
05:35 so it is always welcome at the panda tavern.
05:38 What about you, Mr. Black Caiman?
05:40 May I recommend some fish?
05:42 Or perhaps a mammal like a sloth, armadillo, capybara, tapir, giant otter,
05:48 or maybe even a large anaconda or other caiman species?
05:52 The Black Caiman is the largest predator in the Amazonian ecosystem,
05:56 so it can hunt virtually anything.
05:59 It has a large head and a really powerful bite.
06:02 It is powerful enough to shatter turtle shells, so there is no escape from its jaws.
06:07 Interestingly enough, its muscles for opening its mouth are very weak,
06:11 so you could theoretically hold its mouth closed,
06:14 that's if you dare to approach a Black Caiman.
06:16 Its teeth are also not designed to chew, but to grab,
06:19 so they try to swallow their prey whole after drowning or crushing it.
06:23 If the prey is too large, though, the caiman will just store it
06:26 until the flesh will rot enough to allow the caiman to take bites out of the flesh.
06:31 What about predators? Do they have any at all?
06:34 Well, the Komodo dragon has a skin reinforced by armored scales
06:38 that contain tiny bones functioning as a natural chainmail.
06:42 That, combined with its powerful tail that can be used as a whip,
06:45 will give it a lot of defense from predators or other Komodo dragons while young.
06:50 But once the dragon reaches adult size, it has no natural predators,
06:54 being the largest one on the Komodo islands.
06:57 The same goes for the Black Caiman.
06:59 While younger caimans can be preyed upon by anacondas
07:02 and medium-sized caimans can be preyed upon by jaguars,
07:05 the largest individuals have no natural predators.
07:08 Also, as a side note, both the Komodo dragon and the Black Caiman will attack humans if provoked,
07:13 so I would advise against getting too close to any of them.
07:17 Want to see their stats? Here we go.
07:19 [Dramatic music]
07:23 They have really high attack stats,
07:25 but the Caiman is clearly better here due to its larger size.
07:28 But when it comes to defense, they are going to be equal,
07:31 being the apex predators in their own separate ranges.
07:34 Now we will quickly go over their intelligence stats.
07:37 So, being reptiles, their intelligence is not going to be outstanding, of course.
07:41 That being said, Komodo dragons respond well to target training in the zoos,
07:45 something that not all reptiles can do.
07:48 Also, it has a larger than normal brain for its size.
07:51 Does that mean that it is a genius?
07:53 No, but we can give it some points at least for that.
07:56 [Dramatic music]
08:00 Yep, that's about it for intelligence.
08:02 And last, but certainly not least, let's talk about their survival stats.
08:06 Black Caimans are listed as conservation-dependent in the IUCN Red List.
08:11 That is because it was once hunted to near extinction,
08:14 but is now making a surprising comeback with large populations in the Amazon range.
08:18 Females will build a nest, lay the eggs,
08:21 and then protect them until they hatch and some time after that.
08:24 The hatchlings will have a long lifespan, anywhere from 13 to 80 years.
08:29 The Komodo dragon is doing worse, being listed as a vulnerable species.
08:33 It will lay about 20 eggs, and the hatchlings will live for about 30 years.
08:38 An interesting ability that Komodo dragons have
08:41 is that the female can reproduce by herself.
08:44 Even without mating, it will lay fertile eggs,
08:47 and all the hatchlings will be male.
08:50 This means that a female could theoretically populate an entire island by herself.
08:55 Now let's see their final stats.
08:57 [Dramatic music]
09:01 As you can see, both of these reptiles have really good stats overall,
09:05 excelling in attack and defense, and lacking a little bit in intelligence.
09:09 But who is the winner? It is all up to you,
09:11 because you can cast your votes in the comments down below,
09:14 writing #Dragon to vote for the Komodo dragon,
09:17 or #Caiman to vote for the Black Caiman.
09:20 Make sure you write correctly,
09:22 as this is the only way for me to accurately count the votes.
09:25 [Dramatic music]
09:27 Speaking of votes, let's see who is the winner of the last annual battle
09:31 between the wild boar and the warthog.
09:34 It was really close, but after counting all the votes,
09:38 the winner is...
09:40 the wild boar!
09:42 If you wanted the warthog to win, don't be upset,
09:44 because here, when I'm from animals, we love and respect all animals.
09:49 Once again, don't forget to cast your votes in the comments,
09:52 writing #Dragon or #Caiman.
09:55 I'd also like to thank my patrons for supporting me,
09:58 and if you really love what I'm doing,
10:00 you can also support me on Patreon to fill up that list with your name.
10:04 Respect animals!
