Tour d'Italie 2023 - Geraint Thomas : "It was obviously not the ideal conditions to wear the pink jersey for the first time"
Comme tous les coureurs encore engagés sur ce Tour d'Italie 2023, Geraint Thomas était soulagé ce mardi après-midi d'avoir franchi la ligne d'arrivée tracée à Viareggio. Disputée dans des conditions dantesques, la 10e étape - remportée par le Danois Magnus Cort Nielsen (EF Education-EasyPost) - a été éprouvante pour le peloton, et ce n'est pas le nouveau leader du Giro qui disait le contraire en zone d'interview. "Ce n'était évidemment pas les conditions idéales pour porter le maillot rose pour la première fois", lance le coureur de la formation INEOS Grenadiers.

00:12 Yeah, the weather could have been a bit better but it was nice, it definitely helped get
00:20 through a pretty rubbish day weather wise but the boys were all good and we were all
00:26 under control in the end so yeah, managed to enjoy the stage as much as I could.
00:33 And it's been picked up on but quite nice that you started your career in many respects
00:38 in this area where you now almost come full circle and you're wearing a pink jersey today.
00:44 Yeah, yeah I was on the academy here in Tuscany and I rented a place there when I was first
00:50 couple of years professional so I spent a lot of time on the beach down here where we
00:54 finished the stage so yeah, it's nice.
00:59 And yeah, to be wearing such an iconic jersey was an honour today and yeah, as I say to
01:05 finish here, somewhere I kind of know the roads a little so really nice.

01:20 Yeah, it was nice, it was obviously not ideal conditions to be wearing the jersey for the
01:25 first time but no, it was a solid day, you know, it was attacking at the start for the
01:31 breakaway and then pretty cold at the top, bit of a crazy descent and yeah, the guys
01:37 trying to bring back the break for the final so a lot going on, a solid day but happy to
01:42 get through.
01:43 Have you had time to realise what the next few days will be, you being the leader of
01:47 the Giro?
01:48 I'm not taking anything for granted in this race, anything can happen, especially with
01:52 the weather and stuff but yeah, we'll see, just take it day by day and every day I'm
01:57 in it will be very nice.
