A pensioner has been left fighting for her life after suffering multiple stab wounds in an early morning city attack.

The 72-year-old woman was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham after being stabbed multiple times shortly after 2am this morning.

Cops have launched an urgent investigation and a 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The pensioner suffered multiple stab wounds shortly after 2am this morning (Sun) on Quay Street in Worcester.

West Mercia have sealed of Quay Street and opened a crime scene while the investigate the attack.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “West Mercia Police is investigating the attempted murder of a 72 year old woman in Quay Street, Worcester, in the early hours of this morning.

“The victim suffered multiple stab wounds shortly after 2am and has been taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. She is in a critical condition.

“A 56 year old male is in custody on suspicion of attempted murder.”
