00:00 Many people say that bigger is better, and some tend to believe the same for their dogs.
00:05 While some people prefer the cuteness of little dogs, some of us want them as big as they
00:09 can be.
00:10 In today's video, we'll be looking at the biggest, tallest, heaviest dog breeds there
00:14 are out there.
00:15 Here are the 10 heaviest dog breeds in the world.
00:19 #10 The Cane Corso Italiano The Italian Mastiff is one of the most eye-catching
00:25 dogs of the Molosser breed because of their shiny black fur.
00:30 They were originally bred for hunting big game and guarding the household, and thanks
00:34 to their intimidating physical appearance, they do this job quite excellently.
00:39 They are, however, one of the lightest on this list.
00:42 On average, they weigh anywhere from 99 to 110 pounds in both their male and female species,
00:47 and they grow to be about 26 inches in height.
00:50 So if you're looking for a Mastiff, but don't want something that will be too big, the Italian
00:54 Mastiff might just be the pooch for you.
00:57 Make sure you watch the video to the end to find out the dog that weighs more than three
01:01 human teenagers put together.
01:04 #9 The Great Pyrenees At a time, this dog was known as the royal
01:08 dog of France.
01:10 The elegance and beauty of this dog have made it a favorite for both royals and locals for
01:16 a very long time.
01:18 Apart from its beauty, the Great Pyrenees is also known to be a very caring and affectionate
01:23 dog.
01:24 It has a weight of around 120 pounds with males growing up to be about 32 inches tall,
01:29 while females can grow up to 29 inches tall.
01:32 These perfect descriptions of gentle giants are best for active families with or without
01:37 children.
01:38 They exhibit incredible patience with children and other animals, so you won't have a problem
01:42 keeping these guys as family pets.
01:44 All they need is enough space and regular exercise.
01:48 #8 The Dog de Bordeaux So we don't spend the rest of this video
01:52 trying to get the pronunciation of this breed name right.
01:55 We'll just refer to it by its much simpler name, the French Mastiff, from now on.
02:01 The French Mastiff is known to have the biggest head in the canine kingdom in relation to
02:05 the rest of its body.
02:07 On average, this breed measures up to 23 to 30 inches in height and 120 to 145 pounds
02:13 in weight.
02:14 For this big dog, and any other really, it is important that they get a reasonable level
02:19 of exercise and outdoor activity.
02:21 It is also important to note that you will be spending a pretty penny on food because
02:25 these guys eat quite a lot to make up for whatever energy they expend carrying all that
02:30 weight about.
02:32 On the bright side, you have this big, hairy, fluffy bundle of love and joy to care for,
02:37 and because they're extremely loyal, they'll care for you too.
02:41 #7 The Irish Wolfhound The Irish Wolfhound is said to be the tallest
02:46 dog breed in the world.
02:47 They are sighthounds bred to hunt big game like wolves and boars.
02:51 Being able to hunt and track by sight rather than smell coupled with their size, speed,
02:56 and intelligence made them very good at their hunting job.
02:59 The Irish Wolfhound has a robust and muscular build that one could mistake them for a small
03:04 pony.
03:06 So how tall can the world's tallest dogs grow?
03:08 These dogs are said to be able to reach up to 7 feet tall when standing on their hind
03:12 legs.
03:13 At the withers, these dogs can reach and surpass 3 feet in height.
03:18 As for weight, they also pack a punch.
03:20 Irish Wolfhounds weigh over 150 pounds on average.
03:24 To stay healthy, these dogs need a very large living space and daily physical activity.
03:29 #6 The Leonbergers This lion-like dog hails from Leonberg, Germany,
03:35 hence its name.
03:36 This dog is said to have been bred as a symbolic dog that was specifically used to mimic the
03:41 lion in the crest of the town.
03:44 As a result, just like lions, they are very majestic, self-disciplined, and proud.
03:50 The Leonberger is also a very friendly big dog, so they make very good companions.
03:55 A grown Leonberger stands between 28 to 32 inches tall and can weigh up to 170 pounds.
04:01 #5 The Neapolitan Mastiff Mastiffs are generally known to be very big
04:06 dogs, and the Neapolitan Mastiff doesn't fall short of this reputation.
04:11 The weight of a grown Neapolitan Mastiff usually falls somewhere between 170 and 200 pounds,
04:17 and they grow up to between 26 and 31 inches in height.
04:21 This is only a rough amount, though, as these Mastiffs can be bigger or smaller depending
04:25 on their gender and health condition.
04:28 Thanks to how big these dogs are, they're not advised for families with little children.
04:32 Although they aren't aggressive, being that heavy, even playtimes with kids can get dangerous.
04:37 However, if you have grown kids, these are great pets, as they are fearless and very
04:41 protective of their families.
04:43 So if you can keep up with the size and drool of these massive working dogs, they make the
04:47 best friends.
04:49 #4 The Great Dane The Great Dane is considered to be the second
04:53 tallest dog breed in the world, only standing shorter than the Irish Wolfhound.
04:58 These dogs are so tall that without a close look, you might easily mistake the Great Dane
05:03 for a horse.
05:04 They can reach up to 30 to 34 inches tall at its withers, and a fully grown male can
05:09 weigh up to 200 pounds.
05:11 The biggest Great Dane on record was said to have been 250 pounds in weight and 3 feet
05:16 7 inches in height.
05:17 And the tallest dog on record, according to Guinness World Records in 2011, is a Great
05:22 Dane named Zeus that measured 44 inches tall.
05:25 Don't be scared, though.
05:26 These big dogs are also very gentle.
05:28 They enjoy the company of their owners and will give back all the love they get.
05:33 The only thing the Great Dane will need more than family time is exercise to stretch out
05:37 their really long legs.
05:39 These dogs do not like to be confined to a small space.
05:42 They're active dogs, so they require daily exercise to be happy and most importantly,
05:48 healthy.
05:49 #3 The Newfoundland This large dog breed resembles a giant teddy
05:53 bear.
05:54 The heaviest Newfoundland on record weighed 260 pounds and was measured to be over 6 feet
06:00 long from nose to tail.
06:02 Now that's a real giant!
06:04 On average, though, a healthy Newfoundland can weigh up to or a little more than 200
06:08 pounds and grow up to 28 inches tall.
06:12 The Newfoundland is a very special big dog because of its athleticism, something other
06:16 dog breeds its size cannot attempt.
06:19 Not only are they very agile, but they are also great swimmers.
06:23 They actually love every chance they get to jump into the water for playtime.
06:27 Their thick double-layer coat is water-resistant, so it not only keeps them warm but makes sure
06:32 they don't get unnecessarily wet while playing in the water.
06:36 They're patient and affectionate giants and are great as family pets.
06:41 #2 The St. Bernard These outstanding work dogs are not only popular
06:46 for being big but also for being brave.
06:50 They are most popular for their courageous efforts in the rescue missions of stranded
06:54 explorers and climbers in the Swiss Alps during avalanches and other dangerous weather conditions.
07:00 Males grow up to 30 inches in height and 240 pounds in weight, while females can grow up
07:05 to 27 inches in height and 180 to 200 pounds in weight.
07:10 While these are very big dogs, they make great additions to the family and are always eager
07:15 to please their owners.

07:32 #1 The English Mastiff To round off this list, we have yet another
07:37 Mastiff.
07:38 We did mention earlier that Mastiffs are known for their size before any other traits.
07:43 They're so massive, we could literally make a whole separate video just to list the largest
07:48 Mastiffs.
07:49 Click the link down below if you want to see that.
07:51 The English Mastiff might be short, but that doesn't reduce their weight by any fraction.
07:56 According to the American Kennel Club, the English Mastiff is the heaviest dog breed.
08:01 The average weight of an adult English Mastiff ranges from 110 to 250 pounds, and they can
08:07 grow up to be about 30 inches in height.
08:10 The heaviest dog in the world ever was an English Mastiff that weighed a whopping 343
08:16 pounds.
08:17 But size isn't all these dogs have to offer.
08:20 As with any big dog, if you can handle the size, they make amazing companions.
08:25 They are easy to groom, and they don't require as much exercise as other large dog breeds.
08:32 And with that, we've come to the end of the video.
08:35 Comment down below what you think about the dogs on our list, and share if you currently
08:39 have any of these breeds.
08:40 Also, if you enjoyed this video, then you'll definitely love the two videos on screen on
08:46 the best dog breeds in different categories.
