00:00 Today I'm going to teach you how to make a pot of rice.
00:07 It's pretty essential with Filipino cooking because rice goes with all of your entrees,
00:13 your meat dishes, and if the rice isn't in a great consistency, you're probably not going
00:19 to enjoy the meal as much.
00:21 So first of all, you're going to have, in my case, I've got two cups of rice already
00:27 measured out, and then it's equal parts water and rice when it's white rice.
00:34 So here I'm adding two cups of water.
00:38 Then I'm going to turn it up to high, and we're going to bring it up to a boil.
00:53 Now another method is to have the water boiling already and then pour the rice in, but I actually
01:00 think it works better when I have the rice and then the water because then you can make
01:06 sure that you have enough water to the rice.
01:12 So we'll check back in once it starts boiling.
01:16 So now you can see that the rice is boiling and it's being pretty vigorous.
01:22 So now you're going to turn it down to low or a one or two on the stove, and then you're
01:30 going to cover it.
01:33 And it might try to overflow.
01:34 If it does that, raise the cover slightly, give it a chance to settle, and then put the
01:40 cover back on.
01:41 So now we're going to let it cook for about 25 minutes.
01:46 All right, so now it's been about 25 minutes, so I'm going to turn off the rice, and we're
01:54 going to see what it looks like.
02:01 And it looks perfect.
02:03 As you can see, it's kind of got its shape there, but it's also got a nice softness.
02:11 And then the next day, you can use it for fried rice.
02:16 So there you have it, perfect pot of rice.
