The recently elected center-left government led by the Labor Party’s Anthony Albanese has promised to hold a national referendum, expected this year, on enshrining an Indigenous voice in the country’s constitution—thanks in no small part to the work of Davis and others. “I believe this country is ready for this reform,” Albanese said in a speech in July. “If not now, when?”
