One week ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, top officials in Washington, D.C. spelled out security plans for the event, which is expected to attract some 250,000 ticketed attendees.
Transcript
00:00With the inauguration coming up next Monday, many of the security enhancements that went up around the Capitol for January 6th and for President Carter lying in state have remained in effect.
00:14The biggest threat, I think, for all of us remains the lone actor.
00:19Just in the past week, while President Carter was lying in state, we had two lone actors show up at the Capitol.
00:29One trying to bring in knives and a machete.
00:33Another one who was trying to, what I believe, to disrupt the proceedings by setting their car on fire down in the Peace Circle area.
00:43For the inauguration, the FBI will operate two command posts, one at the Washington Field Office and one at FBI headquarters.
00:51These command posts serve as central hubs for employees to analyze intelligence,
00:57assess potential threats, coordinate investigations, and surge resources as needed.
01:03We are not currently tracking any specific or credible threats to the inaugural ceremony or to the Capitol complex.
01:11We will continue to work closely with our partners to share information and identify and disrupt any threats that may emerge.
01:19There are going to be nearly a quarter million ticketed guests attending the inauguration.
01:25In addition to that, there will be folks that are showing up to participate in a number of demonstrations that will be in the downtown area.
01:34There will be folks along the fence line to assist the public in getting in to the inauguration for those that have tickets.
01:43All attendees will undergo screening.
01:46Designated checkpoints will be set up for members of the public interested in attending the inauguration.
01:51A map of the perimeter showing the locations of all checkpoints will be available online at www.inauguration.dc.gov.
02:01The Federal Aviation Administration will announce temporary flight restrictions in and around Washington, DC.
02:08The US Coast Guard will communicate any maritime restrictions, which will also be linked to the inauguration website.
02:13The Secret Service's comprehensive security plan will continue to use drones as part of our protective posture.
02:19Do not be alarmed if you see these assets during the inauguration or in training in the days ahead.
02:25Our entire police department will be activated for the presidential inauguration.
02:30In addition, we'll be reinforced with nearly 4,000 officers from across the United States
02:36who were generous enough to raise their hands and commit their time to assist the Metropolitan Police Department.
02:42Those additional resources will be deployed to manage traffic, secure dignitary routes, and ensure public safety in our city.
02:50Probably throughout the metro system, we'll have over 900 security uniformed personnel to keep people safe.
02:56They'll be walking trains, they'll be in platforms, bus areas.
02:59The whole idea is to get ahead of something, see something, say something, lots of uniformed personnel to keep people safe.
