For its first design, Sherwood Watches wanted a timepiece that is an extremely versatile dress/diver. Inspired by the world-famous British secret agent, The Commander needed to be able to be tough enough for a swim in the ocean and stylish enough to compliment a tuxedo while playing a game of baccarat at the Monaco casino. This watch can’t be shaken by water but will cause a stir - a cocktail of elegance.

The timing bezel needed the most work to get the look they wanted. The first part was to drop the numbers which uncluttered the whole face. Part of this was to re-think how to use the bezel. Instead of a traditional lume pip at the 12 o’clock position, I have a 20-minute section that is central for symmetry, and if you need to time anything you can move it to the start of the 20-minute section. This should still be as intuitive as a traditional bezel.

The second thing was to make it as thin as possible. In my opinion, a thick bezel can look chunky and inelegant. Working with the manufacturers I managed to reduce the ceramic bezel to 3mm.

About the founder
______
My love for watches began when I was a teenager in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Casio digital watches were popular back then and my watch collection started with these. Over the years I have admired all kinds of watch designs and have bought more watches than I can remember!

But I have never found the ‘perfect’ watch design.

I wanted to change that. In 2019 I created an Instagram account,(@glynn_reynolds).
Using my background and skills as a graphic designer I spent a lot of time photoshopping existing watches to improve their aesthetics - and create unique designs.

My designs received a lot of interest from fellow watch enthusiasts - so I decided to take the plunge and start the Sherwood watch brand. I wanted to create stylish and functional timepieces.

Why Sherwood? Well, I’ve lived In the Mansfield (Nottinghamshire), area my whole life. The village I currently live in is a stone's throw away from Sherwood Forest and the Major Oak - an ancient giant that is Britain's biggest oak tree, with a canopy spread of 28 metres and a trunk circumference of 11 metres.

Legend dictates that Sherwood Forest was home to the famous outlaw, Robin Hood and his Merry Men, who used the Major Oak for shelter; camping beneath its branches and hiding inside its massive trunk.
