00:00 Jorgensen's looking for these bonuses, Demar is on the wheel, so is Pogacar in a yellow jersey.
00:05 On to stage five, the longest of this Paris-Nice.
00:17 After Taddei Pogacar seized control of the race yesterday,
00:21 today the fast men should take centre stage in Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux.
00:26 I don't think it's only one scenario and that's a sprint.
00:31 Mads Pedersen is one of just two sprinters to have won this week, along with Tim Mollier,
00:36 but there are plenty of others hoping to improve on their performances so far.
00:40 I'm sure there's a lot of guys that will try and get rid of the pure sprinters,
00:47 but we hope it's one sprint today.
00:50 And what do you have in mind for this sprint?
00:52 Cross the line first.
00:55 There are a lot of sprinters that haven't been able to sprint enough,
00:58 so we're going to adapt and do our best with Maes.
01:01 There's a lot to do, but now we have to be opportunistic,
01:04 and use the right cursor to be in the right place and keep the speed for the final.
01:09 The wind is set to play an important role today.
01:13 For most of the 212km between Saint-Symphorie-en-Sorcoise and Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux,
01:19 the riders will be battling a headwind,
01:21 meaning that, as Pedersen suggested, it's unlikely to be anything other than a bunch sprints.
01:26 But there is a late climb, the Cote d'Alarak,
01:30 where some of the sprint teams might try to thin out the competition.
01:33 There's a 30km boss to finish, but I think it's a very explosive start.
01:42 We'll have to create a good situation, and we're motivated to get through.
01:47 I think some teams will try to speed up, like Mathieu's and Matt's team,
01:54 but I think we're ready to respond to that.
01:57 Maybe it makes sense to go hard on the climb and then drop some other sprinters,
02:03 but if it's too much headwind afterwards, then it doesn't make a lot of sense.
02:07 So first we need to have our staff in front of us on the course
02:12 to tell us exactly what's happening after the climb,
02:15 and then we'll make a decision after.
02:18 Two riders got into the breakaway,
02:22 but they'd actually been caught by the time we got live pictures.
02:25 Sandy Dujardin, who lives locally,
02:27 and king of the mountains Jonas Gregar, who took 13 points over the early climbs.
02:32 Dujardin spent over 70km solo on his training road before being caught by the peloton,
02:37 who were cruising along at a modest 38km/h.
02:40 There was little to report after that until the intermediate sprint,
02:45 which came with just over 53km remaining.
02:48 No surprise to see UAE Team Emirates hitting the front for Pogacar,
02:52 but he wasn't the only one eyeing up those precious bonus seconds.
02:55 Here we go now, big sprint on the left-hand side.
02:59 Jorgensen's looking for these bonuses.
03:02 De Mar is on the wheel, so is Pogacar, and now Yellow Jersey.
03:06 De Mar is looking to mop these up.
03:08 Gordou is challenging Pogacar now.
03:10 Jorgensen on one side.
03:12 Oh, Pogacar can't get past.
03:13 Oh no, De Mar.
03:14 Here goes Gordou.
03:16 Gordou squeezes through.
03:17 Interesting tactics from Groupama, and Pogacar was not very happy with that.
03:23 The speed really starting to ramp up on the road to the Cote d'Alirac,
03:29 a climb of 4.5km at 4.3% that was going to test some of the fast men.
03:34 The teams with punchier sprinters moving to the front to try to make the race hard,
03:39 notably Jaco Alula for Michael Matthews and Trek Segafredo for Pedersen.
03:44 Shortly before the summit, Gregar appeared again,
03:47 seeking another three points in the mountains classification.
03:50 The down was completely unchallenged and completing a perfect day
03:55 by taking a maximum haul on this fifth stage, tightening his grip on polka dots.
03:59 And here it is, top of the climb, maximum points today for the king of the mountains.
04:08 Gregard will definitely be on the podium.
04:11 With 30 points.
04:14 In the end, there was no real damage done on the climb.
04:18 The sprinters all surviving and preparing to face off again in Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux.
04:23 The trains starting to form as they blasted their way into town,
04:27 but they had to be wary of a tricky roundabout just inside the final kilometre.
04:31 Ben Swift then tried his luck, but the sprinters were right on his tail.
04:37 Now it's the sprint. Pedersen opens up the sprint in the green jersey.
04:41 Pedersen all the way. Here goes Olaf Koi.
04:44 Koi and Pedersen through the centre. Is it going to be the win? It finally is.
04:50 Olaf Koi wins the stage of Paris-Nice. Stage five goes to Jumbo-Visma.
04:56 It's been a question of close but not so close.
05:01 Olaf Koi this season, but after six top four finishes in various races,
05:06 including this one, he finally has a first victory of 2023.
05:10 The 21-year-old Dutchman taking his 16th career win for Jumbo-Visma,
05:14 the second at WorldTour level.
05:16 Koi showing that he has what it takes to sprint with the best in the business.
05:20 It's really nice. I mean, I'm really happy.
05:27 I'm really happy to be here.
05:28 It's really nice. I mean, I've won a few races also last year,
05:33 but this is definitely the nicest so far.
05:36 I was a bit far in the Flamme Rouge, and then I took the left side of the roundabout,
05:42 which was, I think, a good choice. And then I came quite good in a good position.
05:48 And then Eduard Affini flew by and I was in the wheel of Pedersen.
05:52 And this time I was able to get out of his wheel.
05:57 Koi taking it ahead of the other two sprint stage winners this week, Pedersen and Moliere.
06:01 Matteo Trentin was fourth for UAE, with Max Kanter fifth,
06:05 and Brian Cocker the best placed Frenchman in sixth.
06:07 Pagacar didn't take a maximum haul at the bonus sprint for once.
06:14 Godo grabbing sixth with the help of Dumas to cut the Slovenian's lead to just six seconds.
06:18 Jonas Vingegaard is third at 46, followed by Simon Yates at 58.
06:24 With his second place today, Pedersen recovers the green jersey,
06:28 but it's very close in the battle for points.
06:30 Just five of them separating Pedersen, Koi and Pagacar.
06:33 Moliere and Matthieu's a little further adrift in fourth and fifth.
06:36 Gregar grabbed 16 points in the mountains classification,
06:44 increasing his lead to 18 over Pagacar,
06:47 but he will no doubt have to go back on the attack if he wants to take home that polka dot jersey.
06:52 Pagacar is very much in a league of his own when it comes to the youth classification,
06:56 comfortably clear of Matteo Jorgensen and Matthias Schjelmoza.
07:00 Kevin Vaucla is just a second behind the Dane.
07:02 Stage six is another long one, a punchy day of almost 200 kilometers
07:10 between Tauve and La Colse-sur-Luz, with five climbs on the menu.
07:14 It could be one for the puncher sprinters, the breakaway,
07:16 perhaps even an enterprising GC rider.
07:19 Do join us again on Friday to see how it unfolds and thanks for watching.
