Cheeky corgi gets help from cat 'brother' to steal treats from kitchen counter

  • last year
This is the funny moment a pet corgi enlisted the help of his cat brother to steal treats from the kitchen counter.

Chris Equale captured Theodore the cat raiding the kitchen countertop and dropping treats on the floor for corgi Hammy to devour.

Hammy, six, has always had trouble reaching countertops due to his short legs, but earlier this year the duo joined forces and came up with the clever trick.

Chris, a content creator, first witnessed the stratagem when cooking his birthday lunch on January 20.

As he was cooking, the short-legged dog began loitering around the kitchen and barking, something the cat noticed.

Theodore, one, then leapt onto the counter and picked up a piece of broccoli, before jumping back down, dropping it in front of the corgi and flitting off.

Since then, the pair have been doing this regularly, especially when no one is around.

Chris, 35, from Las Vegas, USA, said: "It started happening weeks ago. Hammy would loiter and bark when I would be in the kitchen.

"Theodore noticed and started jumping up to get him treats.

"I thought that things were safe at that height, but I didn't expect to have to get them out of Theodore's reach too.

"They do it pretty regularly now. Hammy will wait by the kitchen when there's no one inside. He doesn't even have to bark. It's almost like they give each other a look.

"We have concerns about the corgi putting on some extra weight. We don't want his belly to drag on the ground too much, but we make sure everything on the counter is pet-friendly.

"Hammy is extremely food motivated. He's very loud and fun. He has a big personality. Theodore is more proper. He's a little less goofy and more sophisticated."
