Der Wall-Street-Broker Clarence Day ist der Meinung, daß er seine Familie zu Hause genau so kontrolliert wie seine Untergebenen im Büro. Dies ist allerdings nicht so, denn hinter den Kulissen und seinem Rücken zieht seine Frau die Fäden. Sie weiß auch, daß der älteste Sohn an einem Mädchen interessiert ist, und wie dieser und seine Brüder ihr Geld verdienen. Außerdem versucht Vinnie Day schon seit Jahre dazu zu bewegen, sich endlich taufen zu lassen, damit er eines schönen Tages nicht vor der Himmelstüre steht und dort abgewiesen wird.
