Arun Joladkudiligi, a professor at the Karnataka Folk University in Haveri, straddles two worlds. In one, he is on a mission to make Ambedkar’s work more accessible by creating an audio series “Reading Ambedkar” with accomplished people from all walks of life. And in the other, he is documenting folk art from around the state.
Arun Joladkudiligi noticed people’s perception of folk art - that it belongs in the past, and that it is stagnant. Through his research, Arun is trying to document contemporary folklore. He has identified new trends in folk arts and enabled folk artists to evolve along with the rest of society. As someone who comes from a childhood amidst folk art, the perspective that he brings into his research and documentation is unique and invaluable.
