00:00 Bengaluru's Metro services, Namma Metro, have seen many delays in implementation.
00:10 The Green Line, which runs from North West to South Bengaluru, was operational in 2014,
00:15 but the addition of three stops, Manjunath Nagar, Chikkabidra Kallu and Madhavara, has
00:20 been delayed for years.
00:21 After a five-year delay, the Nagasandra and Madhavara Metro line is most likely to be
00:28 operational by October.
00:31 This metro stretch connects BIEC and Nice Road.
00:34 The three-kilometre metro stretch has missed several deadlines in the past.
00:38 Let's see how much of the work has been completed and how much of the work is pending.
00:44 The Nagasandra to Madhavara Metro stretch is an extension of Namma Metro's Green Line.
00:48 The elevated line on Tumkuru Road will include three stations - Madhavara, Chikkabidra Kallu,
00:54 Manjunath Nagar.
00:55 Once operational, the Green Line will extend from Madhavara in the North West of Bengaluru
00:59 to Silk Institute in the South.
01:02 The total length of the Green Line will be 33 km once the extended stretch is operational.
01:07 Currently, if people residing in Nelmangala have to take a metro, they have to travel
01:12 to the Nagasandra Metro Station, which is at least 16 km away from Nelmangala.
01:16 But once the Madhavara Metro Station is operational, commuting via metro will be much easier as
01:21 it cuts down travel by 5 km.
01:25 "Metro is convenient for people.
01:27 We have to use it.
01:29 Here, as Bengaluru has an international exhibition centre, traffic is much less."
01:38 "Buses can't be saved.
01:40 Buses are not there on time.
01:42 We have to stop and help.
01:44 That's why metro is convenient.
01:46 It's good if it's opened as soon as possible."
01:48 "It's a bit late to open.
01:50 It's still October."
01:52 According to Bengaluru Metro Road Corporation Limited or BMRCL, as of June 2023, 95.03%
01:59 of civil works from Manjunath Nagar to Madhavara has been completed.
02:02 When we travelled through this stretch to see the progress, this is what we saw.
02:06 When Deccan Eril visited these stations, construction work at Manjunath Nagar Metro Station was
02:13 almost done, including minor works like painting.
02:17 Chikkabidra Kallu Metro Station too seems to be ready.
02:19 But the construction work of Madhavara Metro Station is only partially complete.
02:26 The work on the Green Line's extension from Nagasandra began in 2017.
02:31 This line was slated to be completed by mid-2019.
02:33 So why did BMRCL take five years to complete this 3-kilometre metro line?
02:38 The Nagasandra-Madhavara Metro contract was awarded to Simplex Infrastructures Limited
02:43 in February 2017.
02:44 However, the project was delayed when the company ran into a financial crisis.
02:49 After this, companies like Godrej Interior or IL&FS were roped in to complete the construction
02:54 work of metro stations.
02:56 This is one of the reasons why the project was delayed.
02:58 Secondly, as this line passes through the Nice Road corridor, there were several land
03:02 acquisition issues between the Nice and the BMRCL.
03:06 Nice Road is a private toll expressway.
03:08 Thirdly, there were discussions between the National Highways Authority of India and the
03:12 BMRCL with regard to height of the wire ducts or the pillars.
03:15 This is also said to have caused the delay.
03:17 The BMRCL now hopes to inaugurate this line in September-end or October.
03:22 If all goes well, Bengalurians should be able to use this line in two months.
