While you may be familiar with menopause, you may not have heard of perimenopause. In this video, Dr. Susan Khalil explains what perimenopause is, and how it may affect you. Perimenopause occurs in the few years leading up to menopause, when a woman’s body starts releasing fewer eggs and menstrual cycles occur with less regularity. Symptoms can include hot flashes and mood changes, caused by hormonal changes. It might also affect your ability to get pregnant naturally, in which case a fertility specialist or OB-GYN might be able to counsel you on alternative fertility techniques.
