Assam: 5 dead, 7 injured after brick kiln fire

5 people, including a 12-year-old child were killed and 7 were seriously injured when a chimney of a brick kiln collapsed and caused a fire in the Cachar district of Assam on December 02.

The incident occurred in the Kalain area in the Katigora Assembly constituency of Assam.

Numal Mahatta, Superintendent of Police of Cachar district told ANI, “5 people including a 12-year-old child killed in the incident and the injured were rushed to the hospital. "

She also informed that an investigation into the incident has been initiated.

Khalil Uddin Majumdar, MLA of Katigora assembly constituency said, “The chimney of the brick kiln collapsed and fell on several people. Few people died and many others injured in the incident. We have referred the injured persons to hospital. "

"Locals are also engaged in rescue operation. Fire fighters also reached the spot and doused the flames," he added.
