Come on England (You Better Believe It) came to Nigel Carr in a dream. He quickly wrote the lyrics to preserve it and contacted legendary music producer Mike Bennett, whose credits include Toyah, The Fall, Ian Brown, The Specials, Fuzzbox, and Fat White Family. The song’s release is a celebration (and motivation!) of England’s participation in the #FIFA2022 #Worldcup in Qatar. It’s become what some describe as the ‘people’s world cup song’ and is unusual for its female vocal, provided by Melanie Williams of Sub Sub and Hacienda Classical fame, who teams up with Ian Carr. The song also features Chorlton High School Choir who provide backing vocals. One of the children, Jerrelle Clayton-McKenzie sings the final gospel inspired vocal flourishes. The Lionesses also provided inspiration by winning the Euro 2022 Finals - the first major international championship won by an England team (men's or women's) since 1966. They make an appearance in the lyrics as The ‘Esses (Lionesses).
As a 2022 world cup song it features an impressive line-up of musicians from some of the nation’s best loved bands including Melanie Williams – vocals (Hacienda Classical), Craig Gannon – guitar (The Smiths), Si Wolstencroft – Percussion (The Fall), Jay Stapley – guitar (Roger Waters Band & Suede), Mike Bennett – production/vocals (The Blockheads), David Gleave – guitar (Gustaffson) and John Robb – Ebow guitar (The Membranes), alongside Chorlton High School Choir.
The song is in aid of Child Bereavement UK which is a charity that is close to Nigel’s (beating) heart, and a donation will be made to the charity.

Lyrics:
We love our national game
We want it to come home this time for sure
We want more
The lions are all in play,
The ‘Esses were the ones to show the way
So let’s play
Come on Southgate, come on Kane
Come on lads let’s win this beautiful game
Oh, nothing can stop us now
Oh, nothing can stop us now, you better believe it
Come on England, come on England
Come on lads, let’s win this beautiful game
Kick it boys, kick, kick it boys
The crowds are on the pitch
They changed the game in nineteen sixty six
We got our fix
In fifty years or more
We never even closely matched the score
We need more
Come on England, come on England
Come on lads, let’s win this beautiful game
Oh, nothing can stop us now
Oh, nothing can stop us now, you better believe it
Come on England, come on England
Come on lads, let’s win this beautiful game
Oh, nothing can stop us now
Oh, nothing can stop us now, you better believe it
Come on England, come on England
Come on lads, let’s win this beaut
